Both. I listen to it while writing, surfing the internet, working out, cleaning, and playing computer games. I sometimes have opera or classical on when I'm studying, but rarely anything bouncy.
I don't really like to have music on when I'm reading, especially not if it has lyrics.

the only time I really listen to music is when exercising, but I tend to zone out to it more than concentrate on it.

I'm always listening to some sort of music, I sometimes focus on it; but I sometimes just like it in the background. It's always on though. I need to sing at least once a day so it's always there for me.
