Honestly, the ones with the e-ink display are just as comfortable as reading paper. It's nothing like staring at a computer screen.

I love books, I love antique bindings... but I can't help but feel ereaders are the future - they're better for the environment in the long-run and they can open huge new worlds for disadvantaged people if we get serious and bring these to the masses.
Libraries are great, but with better city-wide WIFI infrastructure, a child would have access to millions of free books from their home (if you're in a disadvantaged situation, it can be hard to "go" places). Would it be perfect ? Would there still be inherent problems ? Of course.
e-ink displays are being pioneered in colour. It's not like a computer screen, so as the technology and refresh rate / ghosting is not, it's not suitable to be used for computing purposes. However, it's totally awesome for reading because it looks just like paper and the technological flaws have little impact in this setting.
Honestly, the "ghosting" of the images seems to me exactly like the paper of a book being that little bit see-through so you see the tiniest hint of words on the next page.
Also, it makes me feel like Star Trek even more than a Tablet for some reason. XD
