I want to get a Kindle Fire. They seem very nice. I don't really like the style of the Nook.

I got a Kindle Touch for Christmas. I am very impressed and I love it !

From what I've heard, the Kindle Fire is more of a multimedia device and isn't the best if you plan on using it mostly for reading.

I absolutely love the e-ink of the "regular" kindles. It's much more like reading a book than a backlit computer or tablet screen. Very comfortable and Amazon's book delivery is very quick (I've gotten about 30 free books so far ).

My friend has a Sony ereader and loves it, but like non-iPod MP3 players, there are fewer/no aftermarket products for it.

I use a Kindle app on my HP Touchpad, and I like it a lot. My mom has a regular Kindle and really enjoys that one.

don't have any yet. I'd rather read a real book, and save my eyes!

Honestly, the ones with the e-ink display are just as comfortable as reading paper. It's nothing like staring at a computer screen.

LINK.

(General discussion */awkward breaking up post*) --+--

I love books, I love antique bindings... but I can't help but feel ereaders are the future - they're better for the environment in the long-run and they can open huge new worlds for disadvantaged people if we get serious and bring these to the masses.

Libraries are great, but with better city-wide WIFI infrastructure, a child would have access to millions of free books from their home (if you're in a disadvantaged situation, it can be hard to "go" places). Would it be perfect ? Would there still be inherent problems ? Of course.

e-ink displays are being pioneered in colour. It's not like a computer screen, so as the technology and refresh rate / ghosting is not, it's not suitable to be used for computing purposes. However, it's totally awesome for reading because it looks just like paper and the technological flaws have little impact in this setting.

Honestly, the "ghosting" of the images seems to me exactly like the paper of a book being that little bit see-through so you see the tiniest hint of words on the next page.

Also, it makes me feel like Star Trek even more than a Tablet for some reason. XD

If you already have a Kindle for reading, I'd go with the iPad. The Fire is good for what it does, but the iPad is a better rounded computing device.

Or get an android tablet.

The way the screens on kindles are made looks like the page of a book. I really enjoy them and they have a few diffrent options depending on your price range.

None, as someone who grew up reading enough books to fill the average closet I am deeply opposed to e-readers. I like .pdf files once I print them out but I prefer reading ink on paper.
I worry that someday far off in the future e-readers will have become so common place that there won't be any libraries or book stores left.
And I love very little more than the smell, look, and feel of a great book.

I had a Kobo but it was glitchy so I don't recommend it. I'm going to get a Kindle 3G with my tax money.
