Will your local movie theater show a movie that is "unrated" by the MPAA?

This question has been on my mind because of the recent controversy over the movie Bully. I know my local art house will run just about anything, however I think the multiplex probably wouldn't screen a movie that is unrated.

Will your local movie theater show a movie that is "unrated" by the MPAA?

Unfortunately, they won't - neither unrated or NC-17.

There's an indie-ish theater that shows foreign and less-popular movies that will likely show it.

The larger mega-multiplex? You have to be kidding me.

Yep, all the time. I my local theatres and wish I could afford to support them more. Bully is currently playing at a couple.

Nope. They're all gigantic corporations, there aren't any independently owned theaters here anymore, except for the lone drive-in theater.

On a side note, I recently read an article that we need more AO (adults only) rated video games, and that's a bandwagon I can jump on!

Unfortunately, many game developers are reluctant to make anything that the ESRB would rate as AO, because Walmart refuses to carry any game with that rating.

On topic, our local theater will. The big box ones, no.

I actually have no clue. I haven't been to the movies for about 8 years now.

I really don't know...nor care really. I only use ratings as a guideline. If it's G or PG, I will usually not see it. Then again, those movies aren't usually appealing to me either.

I have no clue if the Cinemaplex a few towns away would show them or not. I don't pay attention to ratings. We go to the movies maybe once a year as a date.

I'm pretty sure they won't, but I'm not positive about that.

GameStop won't carry them either, and as a company they are responsible for something like 40% of all video game sales. I'm not opposed to the ration but alot of the AO games (often from Japan) have some pretty out there themed that really don't belong on the shelves next to Lego Harry potter, but I wouldn't have a problem with them being sold elsewhere

"A lot of the AO games (often from Japan) have some pretty out there themed"

Your confusing "AO" with "adult". AO is a rating giving specifically by the ESRB. There have been only 21 AO game in existence link. The "often from the Japan" thing is further confusing the issue as most aren't even from Japanese developers.

And it actually far worse then just Gamespot/other stores not carrying it, read that list above notice something? They are all PC games. Games are licensed for consoles none of the consoles manufacturers will give licenses to an AO rated game for North America distribution. For no other reason then this the ESRB ,necessary evil in it creation as it may be, is worse in its effect on creativity then the MPAA is for movies.

I don't know but depending on how wide you define local I'm sure I could find one but the nearest I doubt it.

Someone please explain to me why this gets licensed for consoles without problem:

Starting Fatalities in Mortal Kombat (2011) [1080p HD] (PS3/XBOX)

while this is effectively banned:

X-Change

I think they've shown an unrated film once, but I'm better off checking my indie theater for that sort of thing, instead.

I don't know honestly I always thought that movies are rated r then when it comes to dvd stuff gets added to make it uprated. I don't think I've ever seen a movie that was undated in theatres.
