Contributor: Miss Anonymous Miss Anonymous
Okay, So I'm a netflix junkie! I know I'm not alone. I think I'd die if someone took it from me. hahaha
A couple nights ago I was looking for a movie. I can across a movie called SKIN it is about a black child born from two white parents. I didn't think that was possible, but you can NEVER count anything out. I was curious have anyone seen it? I personally LOVED it! If race is too sensative of a subject to you Idk of I'd watch it. I just wanted to make a post asking if anyone has seen this movie.

You can watch it on netflix(streaming & DVD)

Oh, yeah you would love this than. It had some parts that made me so mad!! and some that made me wanna cry. It's just an all around perfect movie. I want everyone to watch it if they can. It's set back in the 1950s so people were really closed minded in that time. I think if it would have happended today, most people wouldn't find it odd. I've read stories where a mother had twins (she was white, husband was black)and she gave birth to one black child and one white child.

and you know shows like maury? They have alot of babymama/babydaddy drama. It annoys me because the guy is like "THATS NOT MY KID! HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ME" Its crazy. This movie shows that a child doesn't have to look like you to be yours. I've seen babies that don't look like either of the parent, but looks like the dads great grandmother, or looks like the 4th cousin on moms side. There is NO telling who your baby is going to look like. It just drives me CRAZY!

Wow, thanks for sharing this with us! Although I've never seen this movie I have heard of situations where both genetic parents are one race and the child is another, or has VERY distinct features that neither parent does (both parents are blondes with blue eyes and the child has brown hair and brown eyes etc) genetics is so interesting

I haven't seen it, but it sounds interesting! It reminds me of the book The Help where a woman who was half black but looked black and had a black husband had a child who looked totally white and had to send her away.

This isn't quite the same thing, but I know 2 brothers who are half white/half black. One looks totally white and the other looks totally black. I had no idea they were brothers at first, and when they told me I thought one was adopted, or they were half brothers or something, but they actually have the same parents.

I was a little worried about this topic, as I looked at the post title, but I was quite relieved when I realised it was about a movie! And one that looks quite interesting, and I may check it out (just not on Netflix, since it's not accessible outside the US).

I've heard of this sort of thing, and I'd heard, too, that this is quite uncommon. Not rare - the responses here have shown otherwise - but just very uncommon. Honestly, if, hypothetically, my girl had a child that was of a different race to us, I think it'd be a safer bet to say she was cheating, rather than genetics.

I'll definitely have to check that movie out. It actually made me think of La Mission, which is a movie that I really enjoyed that deals with gays in the lowrider community. More specifically, how one lowrider handles hearing that his son is gay. The movie did have a relatively happy ending though.

This looks like a good movie. I need to get a Netflix account set up, I'm so late on all these things lol.

Wow, that is an interesting premise! My older sister looks white but she's black. It's funny how people never believed us when we would say we were siblings. Thanks for making a discussion about this movie!
