I finish the book.

I am a writer so I ALWAYS try to give any author the benefit of the doubt. If the book just does not appeal to me at all and it doesnt read smoothly or if the writing is severely amateur, I will eventually have to stop. I do try my best to finish every book though. My favorite author is Mary Higgin's Clark. I love her books. I've read tons this summer and am on my very last one, On the street where you live. I'll have to take a trip to the bookstore asap to trade the ones I've already read for her books that I've not read yet. I cant get enough of her. I usually don't get soo into a book that I can't put it down and end up staying up until 12 PM! But there has been several of Mary's books that will keep me up like that! That's all night long! It's so worth it though.

I put it down and read something else. I come back to it later.

I try to finish the book. Unless it's absolutely abysmal, I'd only go back to read it at a later date.

i have this thing where if i start reading something for pleasure, i have to finish it eventually before i will allow myself to read something else, no matter how bad it is. i'm not sure why, i just have to.

Hm. I'm picky when it comes to published fiction. Generally an author has five paragraphs within which to catch my attention; if they don't manage that, I won't read it.
Beyond that point, I'll quit reading a book if there are obvious authorial intrusions, or if it reaches the point where continuing is an exercise in masochism.

If I lose interest its probably not a very good book. I dont read fiction, I only read political (actually post-political/ anti-statism) books.
