Texas theatre kicks out a woman for texting, and gets a PSA in the process!

Contributor: Jul!a Jul!a
I've seen this floating around for a day or so now, and even after sharing it on Facebook and Twitter it's still cracking me up, so I wanted to share it with you even if you've already seen it.

Basically, a woman was removed from a theatre for texting and then called the theatre and left them a voicemail intending to show them what-for or something like that. Instead, the theatre decided to make an example of the woman and turned her expletive laced voicemail into their latest PSA against phone usage during movies.

If you haven't already heard about this, go check it out already! The actual PSA is included in the post, along with another very humorous one that cracked me up too. Go! Now! Watch!

I would probably never go back to Alamo Drafthouse if I saw this PSA though. It's funny but pretty rude to show it on a PSA.

I love it! Wish they would take that attitude in the theaters around here.

This is GREAT - we NEED an Alamo Drafthouse here! Too bad they didn't post her phone number so we could leave a text message telling her how much we enjoy watching high-priced movies without someone's phone glaring in our eyes.

I don't think that posting her phone number would be a good idea, and would even open the Alamo Drafthouse up for a lovely lawsuit. However I don't see anything wrong with what they did. Yes, it's a little rude to show it on a PSA, but at the same time the woman in question was being rude by disrupting a movie for other patrons and she was being even more rude by leaving that voicemail. Leaving a voicemail on a company phone, to me anyway, kind of leaves you open to letting the company do what they want with it. If they're not sharing her personal information, then it's really on her for leaving it in the first place.

I am sure that the theater has the message (that most companies do) saying that, "This call may be monitored or recorded."

Be careful what you say if you don't want it publicized.

I wish more theaters would do this. It has gotten to the point I really don't want to go to the theater due to the rudeness of people who think their calls, texts, emails, etc are so important. If you want to watch a movie turn the dang thing off. If you don't, don't come into the theater.

Um... that was kind of awesome.

Can I request a drafthouse cinema in my city?

Same here. I left a theatre once because some woman got in a LOUD phone call with the father of her child and refused to leave the room. It was a good movie too : (

Because they're a smaller, privately owned company they can do that. A big company like Lowes or AMC would never get away with that.

I love it!

Many of the theaters near our house, even the big company ones, have PSAs talking about not talking, using your phone and reminding you to put your phone on vibrate and leave the theater and go into the hall if you NEED to take a call.

I've seen people asked to leave for talking on the phone at both small movie houses and large corporate owned ones. Chicago takes it's movies seriously!

I live in Texas and the Alamo Drafthouse is the ONLY cinema I go to anymore. Not only do they have PSA's before every show telling you to turn your phone off and not to talk or text during the movie, they obviously enforce it. Another great thing about the Alamo is that they DO NOT SHOW COMMERCIALS before the movie. They show video clips of things related to the upcoming film and a few previews of other movies, but no commercials. YAY! And the food and drinks they serve are really good as well. It's an all around fantastic place to go.

If you actually come to Austin, let me know. We can go watch a movie together.

I actually love previews. What I don't like, and I've only seen this once or twice, were actual television commercials prior to the film! Annoying!

That sounds great. I almost can't remember going to the theater without people texting or talking constantly throughout. It's becoming a very prevalent problem. Wish the Alamo Drafthouse would open up near us.

Hate people talking loudly into their phones as if no one else is around, forcing people to listen on to their conversations.

The Alamo did the right thing, hope all theaters will follow suit!

That PSA is AMAZING. I loved how they popped the words on just as she said them. Really funny video.

Oh, I like the previews as well. I wasn't complaining about them. I was applauding the lack of television style commercials, which all the other theatre chains in our area show before starting the film. I paid to watch the film, I don't want to have to watch the same commercials that they put on broadcast tv.
