Do trilogies work for films. I feel like novels usually are great but films often fall short of the other books

As a Star Wars fan I happen to think trilogies do work in films - though it depends on the set up. If it was always intended to be a trilogy, then it'll work just fine. If the makers decided to make more movies, and did so in the trilogy format, because the first was popular and they wanted to make more, for money, then it's not so great.

Does the Evil Dead Trilogy count? I love that but some may argue the "trilogy-ness" of it.
