What do you think of the use of President Bush's head in a scene of Game of Thrones?

Contributor: Petite Valentine Petite Valentine
HBO is rushing to apologize, but for those who already purchased Game of Thrones on DVD or Blu-ray, you now have a collector's item. One of the heads on a spike during the scene in which the King shows his fiancée her father's severed head, belongs to the former president.

"The producers said they often order prosthetic body parts in bulk for “Game of Thrones” because it can be too expensive to make new ones. It wasn’t until the scene was shot that someone pointed out the resemblance to Bush, they said."

HBO has recalled stock and halted sales of the TV show pending deletion of the shot.

Do you think the use of the President's head requires editing the show for home video?

AHAHAHAHAA, that is hilarious. I think no one would really have noticed if there wasn't a recall that made news. That's just really funny.

I don't have the DVD but just going by what I can find via Google. I think it is ridiculous the head doesn't look at all to me like George Bush to me.

So what HBO is saying "we are sorry that one of our shows had for a few tiny seconds an out of focus a head that if you squint really really hard might look a little bit like a former president. That only came to anyone attention because the show runner recalled a story of someone (who was probably nearsighted or something) else saying that it look kind of like George Bush and as we know no two people ever look remotely alike. So if a head look like slightly George Bush -if you ignore the blatant difference like skin tone and hair- it we should all lose our shit. We are rushing to make sure you can enjoy Game of thrones and all its brother-sister incest, fratricide, murdering of babies and rape with out this horrible offensive thing you only know about because we are freaking out about it."

Edit: Also funny if people stop knee-jerking look at the head in context it doesn't make sense as the anti-Bush statement some want to make it. All the heads are those of innocent victims.

Personally I think it was an accident, but either way, when you are a public figure these things happen. I don't think they are to blame, but I think that their apology was important, in letting the public know that this wasn't intentional

No it was not an accident, that implies that something actually happened, this is a case of a head having...I was going to type "coincidental" but that is being too kind. This isn't even a coincidence it is the Rorschach effect, (Note how know one found this till someone said it look like George Bush... power of suggestion). So I don't think the apology is at all important quite the opposite I think it is ridiculous and lost respect for HBO issuing it.

But you have to consider that without the apology, a lot of people would've been offended and raged about it. Regardless of whether it was done intentionally or not, I think that a "sorry" for it just having been there was needed or they might've lost a LOT of viewers for the show or channel. You have to consider that a lot of people might NOT think that it was an accident and without the apology, might think that they are just backing up some ignorant statement of some sort.

By accident, using a replica to someone's likeness who is a political or public figure isn't the smartest of ideas, because it can draw a lot of hate, so that is what I meant.

The thing is that is a pure knee jerk reaction to a media manufactured story. They haven't lost viewers because of the head, note the past tense. Look at the timeline the scene in question was broadcast a year ago, the DVD where they already said the head resembled George Bush came out 3 mouths ago. They haven't lost viewers when they admitted it this 3 months ago. That the head resembles George Bush is literally old news. The only thing that apologizing does is plays into the media trap, don't comment and this non-story will go away faster. Edit out a scene and that just gives this old issue that some one resurrected because they had a slow news day more hits.

And again note what I said above no one saw the resemblance till they where told of the resemblance. It the power of suggestion not a genuine resemblance at work here, by acknowledging it your making it more powerful. Stop acknowledging it and it goes away. Their going to lose MORE viewers this way then if they left it alone. The attention they give it is the only reason it exists.

I think it was a simple accident and, since no one was harmed, no apology was necessary. That said, if it hadn't been an accident, I wouldn't mind there having not been an apology. Public figures, especially politicians, should be allowed to be mocked and derided. I feel such acts keep things in perspective.

Also, I hadn't actually noticed that the head was of Bush, and this thread was the first time I'd heard of it.

It's no necessary to recall as he's a public figure and a controversial one at that. That being said I understand why they did recalled the versions with it. No one is actually going to exchange it for an edited one and the creative figures (who knew what they were doing) go to express themselves without putting the big wigs into an awkward position.
Anyways its not like the original little mermaid cover or anything That one's still in my collection

Once again, people enjoy being offended; they'll look for anything to stoke the fires. This whole thing is beyond lame.

ohhh guess what???

When that one couple was having sex? That woman's arse looked like mine. I demand compensation because there was a resemblance to my ass!!!!

Stupid heads.

There are many people who look like Bush. He made the choice to be a public figure and this whole situation is just silly. If he didn't want to have any snark, comments, rude gestures made to him... he should never have gone into the public office. It comes with the territory.

I agree, he's a public figure and it comes with the territory, but I should point out, he didn't complain or demand an apology. It was the HBO executive team that forced an apology from the producers and pulled the video from HBOGo and iTunes.
