Break Up Music

Contributor: Avery Dragon Avery Dragon
Though I'm happy to say I'm still in a fairly thriving relationship, I just came across an old singer that I feel embodies post break up music.

Bobby Vinton

He wrote the original "Mr. Lonely" among many other songs. His music covers being in love as well as being hurt.

Back when I went through more breakups, I would listen to The Cranberries "Daffodile Lament" and a few other choice songs.

So my question to you EF and all users, when it has occured, or if it will ever occur, what music gets you through those hard times?

I usually go for pissed off f-u type music. Like NIN, Tool, etc.

But sometimes I do listen to more sappy music like Missy Higgins.

Whenever I'm pissed or sad about something that happened between us, DHT's cover of "Listen to Your Heart" gets stuck in my head. In a way, it's our anti-breakup song. I am generally delighted with my partner, so it is only hypothetical when I say that "Forget About the Boy" from Thoroughly Modern Millie (the remake) would be a "fun" break up song.

If I get ticked off or sad, it wouldn't matter what I played 'cause I can have the radio on and hubby doesn't even know it! LOL

Agreed.

My favorite breakup album is Beck's "Sea Change." Though luckily I've never had to put it on in that function!

Beck's "Sea Change" Jim O'Rourke's "Insignificance" both of those seem perfect to me.

I've never had to use breakup music, thank goodness, but if I did, I'd probably turn on some System of a Down, especially "Steal This Album". Very cathartic for stressful, angry moments.

Lefty Frizzell is also a good solice. And this from a guy who ranges from Viola da Gamba to the Smiths...with Nick Lowe as a solid centre.
