A Public Service Announcement

Contributor: Ansley Ansley
Life is short. There are going to be people we come in contact with in life who rub us the wrong way, don't do things as we expect them to, who don't follow the rules or carve their own paths in life...

At the end of the day, that's okay. We all live for ourselves, our desires, our wants. That doesn't make us bad people. It just makes us human.

We fail. We succeed. We get lost. We don't always have the right answers.

Nothing is perfect. Just try to enjoy the simple things in life. The laughs, the smiles, the hugs...one day they'll be gone. You won't see it coming and you'll wish you had enjoyed them in the moment they happened.

Just do it now - tell the people in your life you love them, tell them you appreciate them. Tell them they've taught you something new and worthwhile. At the end of this day, that's what matters.

Just lost someone really awesome this week. And it's caused me to re-examine a few things in my life.

Sorry for your loss, and thanks for the reminder. Even though our lives may seem busy at times, it's important to step back and truly appreciate the people we have.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what it's like to lose someone. I don't know who I'm quoting, but someone once said to me, you can't think about death without thinking about life and vice versa.

Love this. And Stormy, I'm very sorry for your loss.

I like to remember things like this so that I don't let my loved ones go without knowing how I feel and how loved they are by me, so this was really nice to see! This is the type of thing we need to be reminded of frequently because it is easy to think how much you love someone and forget to say it.

I told my family that I love them, once. If I change my mind I'll let them know.

You dont mean to do it,you just dont realize that it could be the last time you see them.the last two people i lost and loved dearly I didnt get to tell them that i loved them..if anything i was upset with them .

I do understand. I too know life is short.
It's been 960 days today, since I lost my spouse of twenty one years.
My heart goes out to you, I hope that you find peace.

You all are simply amazing. I am so glad to be a part of this wonderful community and your kind words have helped me so much. I truly appreciate you all.

For those who have loved and lost, I finally understand how you feel. Each passing day will get easier and the wonderful moments we had will shine through. Yes, it's difficult but there's a renewed strength, if that makes any sense.

Words can't express the comfort you have given me.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. It's amazing the profound things which have been running across my mind lately. I have to stop myself before I say things like "Well, how's Ma?".

The night of her wake I watched a sortakindanotreally stand-up special by Julie Sweeney (she played Pat on SNL). She was in an unhappy marriage, got divorced, got herself settled with a new home in a new town. Then gets a call that her brother has lymphoma. He moves in with her. Then her parents move in with her. She tells poignant tales of memorable, life-affirming and shaking moments and then goes on to say how she gets a call after her annual that she has cancer. She had to have a hysterectomy. I'm not one for actual affirmations of the Lord, and Jesus and the word of God but I do believe there's something out there that has a hand in guiding us. No matter what we are never faced with more than we can handle. It's what we do in those moments that make the difference.

I had a year to say goodbye but I was really just getting to know her and the family and it's been a whirlwind. This is the first passing where I've cared about the person in a very real way and it's surprising just how vastly different losing her was versus losing my estranged grandparents.

In time, things will heal and we'll continue with life just as we're supposed to but at the end of the day, there's a laugh, a smile and a very generous soul missing from our lives. It's a strange feeling.
