Are you "standing at the door" to hand out Halloween candy, or do you use the "honor system" and put out a bowl?

We dont get any trick or treaters in our neighborhood, but we go to my moms town, hubby hands out candy with my dad, and I walk the kids around town

I'm usually out Trick-or-Treating with my sister, but my dad stays at the house and hands out candy to the kids that come through. It varies year to year on if anyone really shows up. One year, we'll have a ton of candy, and we get three kids that pass through. Other years, we'll have very little candy and a ton of kids. Part of it is that our subdivision has one main street that is a big circle and we live on one of the little side streets and so few kids venture off to the side streets. The other part is that the one street lamp we have on our street is usually out, so our street is super dark.

We would never put out a bowl of candy because the first kid to come across it will always take the whole bowl. I was usually part of that group when I was younger, though it was always one person in the group that did that, and they didn't even share with the rest of us.

My sister and I had actually just started Trick-Or-Treating last year and found a house with an empty bowl and a sign that said, "Take one." So I contemplated taking the sign or the bowl. I kind of wanted the bowl. As soon as I reached down for it, the family pulled into the driveway. So I quickly grabbed the sign instead and we left.

We usually sit at the end of the driveway and hand it out. Wouldn't trust just setting a bowl out, it would be gone in seconds.

We lived at the end of a dead end road. So we never got any people. My parents still live there. I think they have gotten about 10 people in the past 28 years.

We just answer the doorbell when it rings and hand out candy like that

Around here, if kids want candy, they'll knock on the door of any house with visible lights on. Very few trick-or-treaters come to my block, though, and I'm planning on spending Halloween with a friend, so no candy this year.

We don't pass any out, there's not that many children nearby that still go out trick-or-treating I guess.
In the three years we've lived here, no one has ever come to the door so we just don't bother.
If we did though, we'd probably be handing it out because my mom loves to see all the little kiddies dressed up.

Part of the fun is ringing the doorbell and getting the candy after saying, "trick or treat!" and having everyone compliment you on your costume!
