Ask Peggi

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
I've found it somewhat amusing that after having answered a few medically-related questions throughout the forum, I've actually had some questions inboxed to me, so I thought it would be fun to make a post where you could ask me questions that are related to anything medical, whether it be sexual health, skin problems, etc., and based on your questions, I can answer them to the best of my knowledge or direct you to where you can go for more information.

I've worked in the medical field for quite some time now in an array of fields, so I have a broad range of knowlege. I thought this way, if two people have the same question, I don't have to repeat myself. I've had a couple of acne questions, etc., you can write them on here publicly or in the form of a message, and I'll post the question and answer leaving out your name, of course

Have fun!

What kinds of training have you had? Gotta be careful with medical advice on the interwebs. If the advice doesn't work and things get bad, there are liabilities.

Well, I'm mostly answering (or directing to better sources) basic questions like those that have been asked to me in the past such as, how to clear up acne, general skin issues (discolorations, changes in pigments, etc.) to some of the more basic internal functions (dealing with stomach problems, etc.)

I am AAMA certified, and trained in Triage, I briefly studied for my RN and LPN before switching to an entirely different degree.

I have worked for years in Dermatology so most skin-related illnesses and cosmetic treatments, I have at least basic to advanced knowledge in, and also did phone triage in that field (which is where I am currently) and have been in Podiatry.

I know a great deal of Gastrointestinal illnesses and dysfunction both through school and on a personal level. I do have brief knowledge of Women's Sexual Health as I did a little bit of shadowing at the Pelvic and Sexual Health Institute in Philadelphia, PA which includes bladder problems.

Most of my knowledge is either Interning, Externing, job-related or extensive studying.

I also, of course, would never give any medical advice without any certainty that I knew what I was talking about, and of course, I am NOT an M.D., but I have a great deal of resources to refer to, and websites to point people in the direction of if I don't have an answer to their problem

1) Ok so I know you mentioned acne well I have acne blemishes I used to be on Retinols and everything, but what over the counter stuff can I use on my face to prevent acne and help the little blemishes?

2) I added you on FB I saw that you are a professional model? lol how do I become a model?

hmmm sounds like P'Gell has something better, I vote for a trade

I think helping people is fun, and since a few people have started asking anyway, might as well

1) If you are looking for something non-prescription and have been on Retinols chances are you would benefit highly from using products containing Salicylic Acid, such as Benzoyl Peroxide. Some have success with products such as Pro Active but these products are basically a combination of OTC products combined in a kit. Really all you need is a nice cleanser, unless you are oily (which would mean, all year round and over most of your face, not just a few problem areas) you'll want a gentle cleanser. Not something harsh or exfoliating for regular cleansing. Exfoliation should be done no more than 3 times a week, and that is a bit overkill. For a list of specific products based on your budget or more specific skin type feel free to send me additional info. Also, something I suggest highly is something like Witch Hazel. Most of these products ARE very drying so you'll want to use a good moisturizer. Many people don't realize there is a difference between oil and moisture in the skin. Moisture is EXTREMELY good, you need it, if you want healthy skin. Oil, is not a good thing, it clogs pores and houses bacteria.

2) LOL. I've been modeling for about 10 years now? It's fun, but you need to be SAFE. There are 2 ways to go about modeling. Freelance, or through an agency. I have an agency but I contracted with them that I am also freelance. If I can't find a shoot or need an agent to attend a shoot, I use them. Otherwise I do it on my own. Starting off you will need to build up a portfolio. This can easily be done with something called "TFP". This stands for Time for Print. It relinquishes rights of the photos to both you and the photographer, the shoot is FREE, and images can be used as either of you pleases. This is most safely done with a reputable photographer. There are many websites you can join for free such as my favorite right here where you can meet other models, photographers, etc.

A good rule of thumb with modeling is that SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY is key. I always bring an escort with me to a shoot, even if there are other models, meaning a friend who will sit back and shush and not disturb the shoot or the photographer, comes along, just for safety. The photographer is UNLESS GIVEN VERBAL CONSENT not allowed to touch the model for ANY reason, if you need to move or position differently, you are verbally told to do so. New photographers sometimes don't know this, but if you should ever be in this situation, remind them, it's against the rules

If you need help finding agents, I'm always available to chat. Modeling can pay well, but keep in mind, it's not for everyone. There is a level of physical work involved, and you need tons of stamina! It can be a hobby, or a career. I chose hobby, but I hardly ever turn down a shoot even if it's TFP to help a photographer build up a portfolio Also never do anything you're uncomfortable with. YOU choose your limits. Not the photographer. Hope that helps
