Calling all false eyelash experts!

Contributor: indiglo indiglo
I know we have some seriously talented makeup mavens and artists here at Eden. I am in a bit of a pickle, and would like some advice.

Something unfortunate happened this morning. I had a muscle spasm while using an eyelash curler... and... yes... accidentally removed most of my eyelashes on my left eye. I was mortified. It didn't particularly feel too good either.

I am planning to wear falsies on that side until they grow out. Just when I need to be made up when I leave the house, not everyday. It went ok today, though I definitely need practice applying them. (Which I imagine I'll get.)

So my questions are:

Will the false eyelashes hurt my remaining lashes? Will they stunt the growth of the new lashes? Does anyone know how long until my new lashes start to grow? Is there anything I can do to speed the process along?

Thank you in advance for your wisdom!

Ouch, that had to have been painful.

To the best of my knowledge, false eyelashes will not harm or impede the growth of your real lashes, just be careful when removing them. If the glue adheres it can break the hair that is still there. To prevent the follicle from becoming clogged, make sure to remove makeup at the end of the day, preferably with a natural oil like jojoba oil, olive oil or vitamin E oil.

How fast your eyelashes grow will vary. If you have to pluck your eyebrows often, your eyelashes will probably regenerate fairly quick.

Ouch!!! I hope they grow back fast. I wonder if that eyelash growing prescription you can get from the doctor would help. I can't remember the name but Brooke shields and Claire Danes do commercials for it...

Once you start taking Latisse, you need to keep taking it for the rest of your life, otherwise your lashes will thin again.

Possible side effects:

"LATISSE® use may cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely permanent. Eyelid skin darkening may occur which may be reversible."

No thank you.

OMG!! OUCH!! Sorry this happened! It made me cringe in pain just reading your post. I used the self-adhesive ones and applied them right above the lashline when I lost mine during chemo....it worked until my lashes grew back to an acceptable length.

I can recommend Peter Thomas Roth Lashes to Die For Platinum. It is very expensive but it does work. It is similar to lastise but you don't need a prescription. When you stop using it your lashes gradually return to their previous length and thickness. I discoverd this product when I used a mascara that made my lashes come out. So sorry this happened Indiglo!

Oh thank you so much everyone! This is some great information, I really appreciate it. Thank you each so much, your replies were VERY helpful.

(And remind me to be more careful next time I'm curling my lashes. )

I once cut all my eyelashe on the left side off, I kept my right lashes. I was in second grade, OK! LOL. HAHA. I've lost most of them due to excessive mascara wearing too and it never looks that bad. Just layering mascara can help too. Falsies aren't so terrible once you get used to them. I don't wear them because mine are super long already, but I have worn them and have applied them more times than I like. You can actually find home rememedies to help em' grow. Just taking vitamins and eating healthy will make a big difference too. They grow back in no time.

I once tried something called Lashem for lengthening lashes and holy heck hey were so long they started falling out! I mean they were abnormally long. Lol. It works well and if you use daily, you'll see a difference in only a couple/few days! However, it's not worth the price because as soon as you stop using it religiously, they stop growing. In your case, that's not bad since you're only wanting to re-grow what you lost? If you aren't looking for long-term effects, it'd be really good for getting them back.

Yea, I'd never put that crap on my body, but Lashem' (the stuff I mentioned in that last comment) will not do that! It's just gel like stuff that promotes growth. No RX, nothing serious like that at all.

Just an update, with another tip I learned online. I've been successfully using my false eyelashes on my left side to cover my slip up.

A couple of times some of the glue has gotten on the few eyelashes I have left. So I did some research online and read that olive oil can be used to soften the glue so I don't yank out the lashes that are growing in, or still left. It works GREAT!

I didn't realize how uncomfortable the falsies would be, but I'm getting used to them. Sort of.
