How Much Debt Do You Have? (Private Poll)

Contributor: AU AU
No credit cards may help? I do not really know. We are in our mid and late 20s and have had no credit cards yet, try to spend little. I was scared away from credit cards pretty early as I seen my parents struggle with debt on them. Later, I seen plenty of warnings to parents and to young people my age about cards and I was like, duh! And then others came to me and said that I should not demonize credit cards. "Get one", they tried saying in almost seductive voices, "It is good to build up good credit". I consider sometimes, maybe when I have a better job. But we really are doing well without them, we even own a house! But let us see how well we do when we have a car payment...

Don't have a house and no credit cards, and that is exactly how we like it. No debt and if we don't have the cash to pay for it, we do without.

I have student loans and a couple of credit cards with not much on them. I also have a car loan, though since I can easily afford to pay it every month, I don't think I'd consider it debt. I know I will be suffering when I graduate college

As an individual, I have no debt (the last of my student loans was paid off during December), but my wife's car loan and residual student loans probably are in the 50K range, so essentially I have 50K in debt.

Same here! If I could get rid of them my debt would be significantly smaller. I'd have my car and some small amounts here and there are credit cards at times.

I have two credit cards. Only about 1500 dollars in total debt. Shouldn't take too long to pay off.

I own my own home and it is fully paid for, though this was not my doing. It was inherited. My parents had accidental death on their house, so my sister and were lucky not have that burden upon their passing.

I am looking to go back to school either this summer or fall and will be getting loans, so I will have more debt eventually, unfortunately.

Hmm... I'm just estimating. I've got about 15K in medical bills (emergency appendectomies are expensive) and another lump in student loans...

I have quite a bit of debt, but will have even more in 2 years when I graduate. I don't have any balance on my only credit card and other than the student debt, I'm good.

I've never taken out credit yet, but someday I'll have to. Also, I now work at a collection agency, which makes me more and more cautious about it.

No student loans, thank you mom and dad, but two car payments. One of them is done in a year, so that will be nice. No credit card debt, but we need to start saving up for a house.

Just the house. Pay the credit card bills off every month and no car loans. We've been operating this way for 25 years.

No debt yet, but that's gonna change next year. Gonna need to take out some loans in order to finish up school, sadly.

School loans which come due next month! Fortunately by late next month I should be finally making money to start paying those off. The drawn-out job search had me worried that I wouldn't have a job when they came due.

I'm only 21 and thankfully, I'm a cheapie and extremely good with managing money. I really have no debt, but I am a college student for another 3 months and then I'll be going into hynotherapy. I've pay my schooling monthly. No grants, scholarships, etc. Just out of my own money and my partner's. Lol. It's tough, but I'm on a good payment plan and since it's a specific school only for writers & that you have to pass tests just to be considered years in advance, it's made it very cheap. I pay a small amount monthly and honestly being a college student, writer and work in nail design it's not easy to come up with it. But I still owe 400 something dollars. Which probably to most isn't even enough to consider debt at all. I'm very lucky and will have to be super careful as I get older not to get into debt. I won't take out loans or anything I'll ever have to pay back. I did have a hospital bill since I don't have insurance and had to have surgery, but that is the last thing I worry about when I have school. Hynotherapy which I'll start into this year will be different, I'll probably think about getting a little bit of financial help for that one.
