Do you follow any "official" religions, or are you just spiritual? :)

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
I wonder how many EF members find the topic of morals and beliefs based on religious and other philosophical views important in their life...

Do you follow any religions named over history, like Xtian, Pagan, Buddhist, Animist, any branches of those?

Or do you just have your own views and have a similar and more freely chosen mindset?

Or isn't this a question to you at all?

I've thought that the eden reviewers would be a really interesting pool of subjects to survey and study (as a psych major), so I'll be watching this discussion closely. Thanks for posing the question.

Religion and spirituality is very diff. For me, it seems religion has just turned into... something I don't really like to be a part of. However, I am a Christian and firm believer in God. My family is too. We pray, the kids go to church, but I prefer sticking with my daily Joyce Meyer and Creflo Dollar sermons on TV. Churches around here honestly are kind of fake and I hate that! The one I grew up in was amazing though. No judging, no strict rules. They didn't care what you wore, how many tattoos you had, etc. But a younger couple who I did used to love, took over and it changed for the worse. I quit going and just haven't found a church that got down to business like I prefer. I want to hear the raw truth. I don't want to be "preached at" with the same ol' preachings I've heard for years, but I want to learn, be inspired and have some real holy ghost going on. Churches just don't do that around here anymore. It's just not... enough? Anyways, I pretty much find the word I need by reading the bible myself and reading Joyce Meyer's books. Those always give me what I need! Lol.

As far as a religion... no.

Me too, but I don't totally dismiss the idea of a god, even though I have no belief in it what so ever.

I wouldn't call myself highly spiritual, but I try to have good morals and do things in a considerate way.

I'm Baptist though I haven't been to church services since my oldest was a baby. It was very hard to keep him quite during services and now he's older and has a younger brother and I just haven't been back. I still consider myself spiritual with Baptist beliefs. I'm not perfect and have done things that the church would look down on, but I'm still pretty moral and a good person that helps others.

I'm agnostic. Basically I don't think about that stuff at all. It's not on my radar. I just try to do the right thing by others. My morals may not be the best, but I don't lie, cheat, steal, etc. I'm a better person than many spiritual and religious people I have known despite not being the best person. I don't think belief in a god or gods is important in dictating morality. I think logic and sense should dictate those things. That's just my thoughts.

I'm Pagan but I don't really refer to it as my religious path, as much as my spiritual path. Paganism pretty much gives you the opportunity to make up your own beliefs and practice, even adapting them from other religions and philosophies. I had been exploring more specific paths such as Wicca in the beginning, but that wasn't for me.

Much as voenne said. That's the great thing about Paganism. There are so many different types that, if you don't like something, you can just get rid of it. So in that sense it's not an exact religion, but it is a religion. Indeed, I was even thinking of putting down into words the way I view my religion, and then make that a sub-religion in itself. I was thinking of calling it Errantism ...

I am an athist, but do practice budhism as a humanist. That means I think morals should be dicatated from reason not spirtiaul or religious beleif.

I believe in god, but I don't have a specific religion. I've studied different religions (not practised), and they all seem to have the same message. Be a good person.
