Do you have a favourite word?

Contributor: little miss kinky little miss kinky
Is it an English word? Or in another language?

Why do you like it? The connotation? The sound of it? Something else?

I love the word "melancholy." It's just a beautiful word and the meaning of it comes across when you say it. It's been my favorite since high school.

I have so many, I can't remember them all right now

Mostly I like them based on the sound and the way they roll on the tongue.

In English, I love the words: Anglophile, Peruvian, wee (as in tiny), hysterical, oleander, hyphenate.

In Italian: ceci, sette, cucina, baciare, notte, cinque, bellezza.

In Spanish: beso, porque (which elicits the response por que? )

In German: schadenfreude

When I was in fifth grade, Monte, my best friend and I thought that the family name of the Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, was absolutely hilarious. In class one or the other of us would whisper "Vespucci" to the other and immediately both of us would erupt into peals of laughter. Monte moved away the next year. I haven't thought of him in probably, just about forty years.
Thank You, little miss kinky, for evoking that memory.

I don't know if I have favorite words so much, but I do have words I say a lot. I go through spells with what I say frequently, but at the moment, some of my favorites (from various languages) are:

Bam!
Moshi moshi
Por favor(when things aren't working out well)
dito

I'm sure there are others, but I won't bore you since I don't have an entertaining story about them. lol

My spouse grew up in South America speaking Spanish. When I hadn't shaved and would have a stubbly beard, she would run her hand across my cheek, make a funny face and say "puerco espín" which to me sounded like Porkus Peen. That too would bring peals of laughter from my lips.

It's been two years eight days, I miss her still.

I was having some difficulty understanding a few of the words of the"Verrückte Frauen" lyrics. So I contacted Lutz Lüül Graf-Ulbrich himself and he quite graciously emailed them to me. An absolutely first class fellow with talent to match.

Why yes I do...many, in fact.
But the most recent addition to the list is the word "cordiform".

I like to write, so I'm always on the lookout for the next great word to use,

My favorite word is floccinaucinihilipilif ication. It's made up of a string of latin stems that mean essentially "of little or no value" and the word itself is defined as "The act or habit of describing or regarding something as unimportant, of having no value or being worthless."

Latin flocci, from floccus, a wisp or piece of wool
nauci, from naucum, a trifle
nihili, from the Latin pronoun, nihil (“nothing”)
pili, from pilus, a hair, something insignificant
(all therefore having the sense of "pettiness" or "nothing")
With the ending -fication. "Flocci non facio" was a Latin expression of indifference, literally "I do not make a straw of...," which I consider to be the latin equivalent of 'look at all the fucks I don't give'. Thus, this is my favorite word, not only because it of it's ironic length vs. meaning (I like to say it's a long word that basically means 'nothing' and enjoy the confused looks I'll get), but also it was supposedly made up by some bored students, which just amuses me to no end.
(Definitions from wikipedia because I feel lazy).
