When I was little my dad took me to a field away from the city and we watched a really awesome meteor shower. It was beautiful. I don't think I'd ever seen the sky that clearly since there were no city lights.

I have very fond memories of my husband and I back when we were dating, staying up late to watch meteor showers. He was (and is) and astronomy buff and always knew when they were happening. He was also a member of a local observatory that held meteor parties. That's when we'd all go up to the observatories on the top of the mountain, away from light, complain about the cold, and watch the meteor showers. They would open all the different telescopes and their planetarium so people new to astronomy and even kids could see something special.

If you have a clear sky tonight, don't forget to go outside and view the meteor shower. The best time to see the shooting stars will be around 2AM-3AM; grab a blanket, lie down and enjoy!

It's happening right now. This site gives a lost of all of them for 2012.

We sat out for an hour tonight and seen about 15 of them, kids loved it! It was pretty cool to see them flying in different directions. Even seen two satellites. To bad the temp dropped to below 50, might have stayed out and slept under the stars.

I haven't gone outside yet, it's supposed to peak around 2 to 3 a.m. Pacific time, and it's only a little past 1 a.m. now...we're going to wait for another hour so we can see more!!!
