Do you shop at Wal-mart?

Contributor: GONE! GONE!
All big stores have something icky in the closet, some of them just have more visible problems than others. I'm having to put my morals on hold until I'm less poor sadly.

I do. They have done a few renovations to the few in my area, and they are very nice stores, unless it's crowded. I don't do well in big crowds.

I like the dry goods and frozen goods for groceries, and as far as bath products or cosmetics, they are cheaper by far. I don't do the meat. I prefer lean cuts, and I'm just never thrilled at what I find at Walmart. Produce is hit or miss. If they have a seasonal veg, it's usually pretty good, but if it's out of season, I don't bother. I don't really buy into the big business hate-mongering that surrounds Walmart. I know there are points on both sides, I just personally don't have much time in my life for getting worked up about it one way or the other. I use Walmart for what I need, and as a responsibly shopper and budget planner (speaking ONLY for myself), I pick and choose where I spend my money for particular goods.

Target is great for random supplies and off-brand otc medicine, but I know I'm going to be paying alot for groceries. Kroger is my favorite grocery store, and the one near my home has an amazing meat selection, and I like their prices for one-stop grocery shopping. Publix has fantastic produce, but I find it too expensive for all my shopping. Big Lots or the dollar store are my go to for cleaning supplies. And sometimes it's just fun to browse through Big Lots.

Not really. I get all my groceries at Food Lion and whatever else I need at other stores. I hate WalMart.

No, I don't shop there. (Although I'm not going to harass people who do. But, I might nudge them to think about their choice, after doing research.) I don't like the way they treat their employees, how they treat women who want to get into management, putting small businesses out of business, their "health care plan" (basically pay people low enough so they can go on Medicaid, and TELL them that Medicaide IS "Walmart's Healthcare Plan.) I don't like their nearly 100% China imported low quality stuff and the fact that 5 or more out of the top 20 richest people in the country are Waltons.

See the movie "The High Cost of Low Prices." You can watch the movie on this link. You'll never shop at Walmart again. My middle daughter and I watched it about 4 or 5 years ago and made a pact.

I urge people to do their own research, everything from their link to China (when they used to pride themselves on most of their products being "American Made") to the way women workers are paid less, and how they got out of a law suit that should have changed their business practices, to seeing the great movie about this multi billion dollar company.

But, when stores like Walmart actually contribute to the failing economy, even when money is tight, shopping there is like shooting yourself in the foot. And we recently did a comparison price log, Walmart was no less expensive than Target and more expensive than KMart and many online stores, like drugstore.com for many things.

We don't even have a regular grocery store in my town, and in one of the neighboring towns it's only Wal-Mart. Unless I'm willing to drive for an hour to go to the grocery store, it's the only semi-affordable place to buy groceries.

I've honestly never set foot in a Wal*Mart.

I am iffy enough about them from an ethical standpoint not to bother, and there are Grocery Outlets and WinCos and other cheap grocery stores around here as an alternative if I need to save money, and most other things I'd buy there are luxuries.

Can't stand it. It's always too crowded, there's something in the feng shui that ALWAYS puts me in a bad mood, people don't know how to count to keep their items under the express lane limit, the organization system has things scattered throughout the store in senseless places, the fresh food selection is awful, they're too big for their breeches, and I've seen decent people who work there become broken in spirit.

I shop there only once a year now (Christmas time), and it still drains my soul. In fact, I think I created a thread about it a year or two back where we all expressed our displeasure on the subject.

I'd rather not, but we have no choice. We only get like, $400 a month. We don't even get food stamps. It's ridiculous. Our local dairy had to shut down because of them.

Nope. I don't simply because I have, believe it or not, found better prices at my local grocery store. Plus, I'd rather not deal with the ridiculous lines and crapload of people when I go there.

I too live in a small town and Wal Mart is about all there is here. However, we usually go 20 miles away to shop at a Super Wal Mart because the one here is small, doesn't carry hardly anything, and our townspeople kept turning down the super store! So, our money is being spend in another county but in a Wal Mart. I prefer to go to a 24 hour store late at night when most "normal" people are sleeping!!
