Do you think Hot Cheetos are addicting?

Contributor: potstickers potstickers
Some schools in the US are banning students from eating Hot Cheetos. They've been found to be addicting due to the human body naturally craving certain compounds (fat, salt, sugar).

In your personal experience, how often do you eat them, and do you think Hot Che are addicting?

That's just stupid. Yes, the human brain is hard wired to seek foods that have salt, sugar, fat, and carbohydrates, because back in hunter gatherer days seeking foods with those elements were the best way to fend off starvation and malnutrition. So yes, those foods can be a bit addicting. But singling out hot Cheetos is kind of ridiculous. They are no more addicting than French fries or any other junk food. Personally, I can't stand them. I don't like foods that are hot with no other real flavor to them, but the regular and jalapeño Cheetos are delicious. Not really addictive, though. I don't find myself in withdrawals or pawning all my stuff to get my cheeto fix.

I saw that article, and was really confounded! Are Hot Cheetos any different nutritionally than regular Cheetos? (I just compared the nutritional info on both of them, they are nearly identical in calories, fat and sodium - so why are they singling out the hot ones? Very strange.)

And, isn't it the parent's job to parent their own child (as opposed to the school's)? I find the entire thing completely strange and bizarre. Not to mention ridiculous and a complete overstepping of boundaries. But... whatever I guess. That's such a strange thing for a school to get all up in arms about.

I personally do not eat them because I don't enjoy any kind of really spicy food, but I know plenty of kids who love them. All things in moderation - a little girl was quoted in that article as saying she got to a point where she was eating them everyday, even for breakfast. Where are the parents?

Wow. That is wild! Never heard of that, but if those are addicting just because the sald and fat, wouldn't almost all foods be? Hmmm...

Anyways, I have had them and like them. I've not eaten them enough to become "addicted" but I do like them more than I do regular cheetos, which I don't even care for. I don't love the spicy ones, and I'd always prefer pringles or sun chips because those are my favs. So I can't really see them being truly addictive. I guess my idea of addiction is far from what mosts.

I have never heard that any form of Cheetos is addictive...what bunk! Get the children out of a classroom and let them burn off the calories and VOILA no more "addiction".

Another reason the Hot Cheetos were banned - the teachers complained about red fingerprints smeared all over the classrooms.

I like the spicy heat, but I'm not that crazy about Cheetos, haven't ate them for a while.

I've never tried them, but cripes! I am so tired of the government and schools overstepping their boundaries. Teach my child...don't stick them in a room with 40 other students and then focus on what they can and cannot eat!

I think cheetos are disgusting, and as other posters have noted, there are tons of foods that contain huge amounts of fat and sugar. Are donuts addicting now too?? Will teachers lounges no longer carry donuts? That's just inhumane.
