I don't have a desktop any more, but I don't see desktops going "extinct" any time soon. Sure, a laptop can perform admirably at low- and medium-intensity usage, but for high-FPS gaming (and anything else that requires a monster of a machine), desktops are substantially superior. Even with technology advancing by leaps and bounds, it's still surprisingly difficult to get past the physical limitations of a smaller machine (e.g. a proclivity toward overheating). And until the price discrepancy between equivalent-power desktops and laptops evens out, that's just one more reason plenty of people are still buying new desktops.
