Does anyone have a desktop?

Contributor: MrWishyWashy MrWishyWashy
So it seems to me that the good old desktop computer is on the brink of extinction. Does anyone actually still have one? I have a laptop and got rid of my desktop a few years ago.

I do and desktop computers are way better than laptops, and always will be for everything, because laptops can't have the capacities desktop machines can!

We have both. My husband prefers to use the desktop, especially when he's working on his photography stuff.

I just bought a desktop because my laptop monitor crashed & burned after only 3 years - not worth the money

In my house we have a desktop but I don't use it, it is on its last leg if you ask me. I have my laptop and my Netbook, but I guess you can consider my Netbook a desktop since my ex husband let my dog jump on it an shatter my screen. I had the stupid thing for like 2-3 weeks before he let my dog jump on it so my dad bought a computer monitor to hook it to.

I don't have a desktop any more, but I don't see desktops going "extinct" any time soon. Sure, a laptop can perform admirably at low- and medium-intensity usage, but for high-FPS gaming (and anything else that requires a monster of a machine), desktops are substantially superior. Even with technology advancing by leaps and bounds, it's still surprisingly difficult to get past the physical limitations of a smaller machine (e.g. a proclivity toward overheating). And until the price discrepancy between equivalent-power desktops and laptops evens out, that's just one more reason plenty of people are still buying new desktops.

I haven't owned a desktop since 1992. Laptops are just easier, and the days of them being less stable died with Win95.

I have two for my work. I have to run specialized and many peripherials--they do not make them for laptops.

Yes I still have both a desktop and laptop. No reason to get rid of a perfectly functional computer.

Yes, I have it for gaming, but it is pretty much dead now...I just need to get a bunch of stuff out of the hard-drive and transfer it into my new desktop...whenever I can afford to get it, that is...

Haven't regularly used a desktop in about 15 years. I rarely carry my laptop around with me, but I do appreciate that I have the choice.

Got rid of the desktop years ago. My family all have laptops now. Saves a lot of space.

I do! I like having a bigger screen to watch movies on and I hate the touch pads on laptops.

We have two desktops (one is currently stored away). I stored mine since I use my laptop and my partner uses both the desktop and his netbook.
