Does anyone still do laundry by hand?

I don't mean a few dedicates, I mean your real laundry. I just saw a laundry wash board for sale on Amazon.

link.

Couldn't believe it. Who uses those??? Do you?

Yup. Almost all my students wash laundry by hand.

I wash most of my things by hand when there is no power. Which is often. I don't mind really, I find it is one of those things like waxing woodwork. You can just turn off your brain and get lost in the work.

I wash my lingerie by hand. It is too expensive to let the washing machine ruin it.

I still do, we don't have a washer or dryer at our house and only go to one of those laundromats like twice a year or so.
If I didn't hand wash clothing on a regular basis, I'd wind up stinking like three month old sushi or milk. xD

I've been thinking of making one of those hand powered washing machines you can make with a plunger and 5 gallon bucket to make my life a bit less tedious though.

I wash a few of clothing items by hand, at least the ones that I'm extra careful about and don't want to get stretched out or ruined in the washer. I find it kind of relaxing.

Yes she does I have had to hand wash on a board in the past but now I am lucky enough to not have to. I do hand wash delicate clothes.

I don't know anyone who does. I think I might just throw most stuff away if I had to wash by hand!

Shall I assume by your sign on name that you really are in China? Is this rural or city, where you say "your students wash laundry by hand"? Just curious.

That is very true, and I didn't realize that anywhere in the developed world, people were still doing laundry by hand. We travel to Europe a lot. I have traveled some in Asia and a bit to some wealthier areas in the middle east. In none of those places were people lacking for modern wash machines and dryers.

I live in in America and in a major city in the NE Coast and yet I wash the majority of my laundry by hand. The only things I use the washer/dryer for are my bedding, towels, and jeans. But then again I only eat organic and local, and that's for what I don't grow myself, use only organic products.... and try to keep my carbon footprint as low as possible. I also don't own a car - since I can walk to nearly everywhere I need to go. Noticed a lot of the questions on the Social board here have to do with lifestyle choices...
