Excessive activity from my IP address error

Contributor: Kindred Kindred
For some reason, I'm getting a pop up warning me that they have detected excessive activity from my IP address and I can not vote on reviews. I submitted a ticket and it was suggested that multiple tabs could cause this problem. I totally admit I am a tabaholic when using Firefox.

Anyway, I closed all tabs and the problems still exists. I even left the EF site for a few hours and I still get the message. I do not get the message when I tried using Safari. I tried deleting my cache and history, but that did not help. Any other suggestions? This is pissing me off because I have a back log of almost 200 reviews from being away this past week. Help!

I actually experienced that one night when I was reading a bunch of reviews and voting on them. I only got the error once, closed the tab, and tried voting on another review. The warning didn't show up again.

I wish I knew what to tell you, but I don't. Just for reference, I use Chrome, and I do use numerous tabs at once. Perhaps if you just restarted the browser it would work again?

Just some thoughts of the top of my head. Clear cache on FF and from your computer. Close down browser, do a disk clean up and restart your comp. Whenever I have problems that is what I do and it seems to work. Although I have never had that problem. Hopefully someone can give you some better advice.

Damn, 200 backlogged reviews? I know what you are doing this weekend. lol

I think EF may have been experiencing some technical difficulties recently. That may be the cause.

Clearing your cache won't do anything to solve this problem. Sometimes networks are set up so that everyone on that network appears to all outside users as the same IP address. Everyone at the place where I work appears as the same IP address when any of us visit external websites. Many companies are set up this way.

I'm thinking this might be the same situation for you, although I don't know the details of how you connect to the Internet. Maybe if you use a large ISP, that's what's happening to you.

I use Verizon Fios from my house. And for unknown reasons, the situation resolved itself without my doing anything. Thanks all for the suggestions.

(Time to pare down all those backlogged reviews to read)

Wow! I just got this pop-up too. I was only voting on my 2nd review today. I wouldn't call that excessive! I usually vote on up to 10 per day.

I get it from time to time. Always when voting on reviews, it's frustrating, but what can ya do?

I've gotten it but it has always gone away. I know it's from using multiple tabs but I can't stop myself.
