Have you ever fought a ticket by using the State Law Codes?

I only ask, because my father got a no seat belt ticket here in Texas.. and it says on the ticket that the fee is $150 dollars. Well, the state transportation code says that the violation can only be fined between 25 and 50 dollars.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had luck sticking it to the system?

have never had a ticket to date. But I would try to fight it if I felt it was unjust.

I've had very few tickets, and none of them were for more than they were allowed to be for given the circumstances. The time I got a speeding ticket, it was actually written for less than they could have charged me. Instead of the $ per miles over the limit, I got the generic "violation of traffic rules on the PA turnpike" charge which worked out to be much less.

Are you sure the fee doesn't include court costs? They charge them even if you don't go to court. I was issued a ticket for what was $50, but with all the associated fees, it ended up being $250!! I was in the right, so it was dismissed, but good lord, what a debacle!
