Those who can't handle the sight of needles in the skin, surgeries etc.: would you have been a nurse in the time of the second world war anyway? :)

I don't mind stuff like that. I would be able to stitch up but I don't think I could do surgeries.

I have a complete phobia about medical stuff, so I wouldn't be able to do it.

Company clerk, on the other hand, that I can do. The USO would have been fun, too ... some outfits, especially in the Arctic, went months and months without seeing a woman ...

I don't think I could have done it. I probably would have wound up working in a factory or something instead.

I am a nurse. Needles and blood don't bother me at all. Osteo surgery equipment (the sounds and the smells of bones being pinned and sawed etc) make me kind of sick, as does dental equipment, but I'm not an osteo surgical nurse, so it isn't a big deal.

I work in Infant Maternal care and work with blood and baby poop and pee and human milk every day.

I think I would be fighting instead of being a nurse. I wouldn't have made it either with needles.

You don't need to. Do other people need to understand your fears?

Anyway, no I wouldn't have been a nurse. I would have been one of these pioneering ladies:

Definitely not, though I'd contribute in other ways. My talents and squeamishness would make be a bad nurse anyway.
