Health, have we gone too far?

Contributor: markeagleone markeagleone
I wanted to start this poll in the health section, but it fit more than one. I was wondering what your opinions are for today's health concerns. It seems to me that the more chemicals we add and become to depend on, the more and more consequences come to light. Have we gone too far and created a mess?

I feel like we do try to make some things to clean by adding a lot of chemicals. These chemicals usually have far worse side affects.

Now in saying we should be able to do what we want I am saying that we should be the judge of what goes into our health. Also with saying this I believe we should all be aware of all the pros and cons before doing anything. I would call this being an informed consumer. Too many people just do what they are told or only read one study and all of a sudden they are on board. I research everything and I try to go into everything informed.

I think the FDA needs more power to protect people from companies just out to make more money with little regard for long term effects. That is their main purpose and have been slacking since at least the 80's.

I'm reading a book called The End of Over-eating that scared the heck out of me.

Agreed!

I also think we need to look beyond the monetary costs of things. There are other costs that are not so easily measured in dollars and cents, but that are just as important to consider and often times of greater concern.

It's not actually 'WE' as in us. It's them as in BigPharma, FDA, EPA, Corporations, They have plenty of power to do as they choose, but they do not choose we the people. Do you know the EPA just raised the limits of radiation to suit what has swept over here from Japan? Do you know there is radiation in the milk, veggies from the west now too? Do you know BigPharma is injecting our kids with mercury in their mandetory shots? Did you know that the 'swine flu" was a hoax to inject us with more chemicals we did not need for their profit? Do you know our meat now has strains of bacteria in it that is immune to antibiotics? The FDA is stamping this meat with their approval. I used to write about stories just like these hoping to wake people up! There are 100's more things I could tell you... It just was not happening. Now I write about sex toys. Much more appetizing. Plus it does wonders for my attitude. I would like to forget what is REALLY happening here and now.

When the deregulations went through in the early/mid 00's to "promote free enterprise" I noticed how the quality and safety of things started falling. There was always the next "(animal) flu" to worry about...don't forget the flu shots people get every fall.

It worries me how much cross-over there is between government and business that I'm looking to get out of the States when possible.

We've gone way too far! Granted we have more technology and medical knowledge that many of the health problems of the past are gone, but we've created just as much to take their place.

clearly we've gone too far. oh what fools we've been, with our historic lows of disease, historically high life expectancies, the ease at which we recover, how close we are to curing cancer and aids. Don't even get me started on antibiotics, inoculations, birth control pills, heart meds, blood pressure meds, they're all bad. of course there's also cheaper plastics which have made cheaper, more useful items available reducing household expenses and allowing people to spend their money on more important things. We need to go back to wishing disease went away, using bronze for out metal and using rocks between our legs as birth control.
