I just call them the cops. My husband said that truck drivers (He is a former driver) calls them smokey. He only used that term while driving.

My best friends dad is a cop, so I tend to avoid derogatory terms about them in general so that it doesn't accidentally slip out when I'm with her. She gets all offended like she's the cop.
