...I sort of am one as well (though I don't take it to unreasonable measures).
Mostly it's just that I don't feel comfortable meeting new people because I'm really shy, I'm fine around friends and family though.
I find that it's easier to meet new people and actually enjoy doing so if the topic they're chatting about amongst themselves is something I like or know a fair bit about. =3

It doesn't matter how I feel about them... I'm never going to see them
Seriously, though, as long as they are secluding themselves by choice and not because they're suffering from some sort of crippling social anxiety, I think it's not such a big deal as long as they are able to support themselves.
