I only speak American English, but I used to speak passable French, almost all of which I have lost. I started to study Spanish, but never finished pursuing it, *sigh* Now my brain is so addled, I can barely remember English and I have lost all desire to even try any more

English is my native language but I'm in the middle of taking up how to speak Japanese. Eventually I'd really love to learn how to speak French, Spanish and a few others.

The only language I am fluent in is English. I can understand a good bit of French, and some German, and I can speak a little of both. My grammar is pretty abysmal in both of them, so I suck at writing them or speaking anything but very simple words and phrases. I can insult people in French, German, Japanese, and Russian though. I really want to work on German and French again, though. I think I would do better learning at my own pace than I did in my classes. The only time I did really well in a language class was my first high school French class. The teacher had a great approach to teaching foreign language, which was to teach it in a way similar to how we teach kids English. We did a lot of picture drawing and story writing, and honestly some of those stupid stories are some of the French I remember best.

My problem with French was my self consciousness, too! Of course traveling to France for the summer to study (I was in high school) and only being allowed to speak French was nerve wracking as the locals would not respond to anyone they could tell was not a native speaker, no matter how good your french was. The French speaking Canadians were ignored as well and come on, there are differences, but I understand British speakers, or any other English just fine! The French were really horrid about it, but maybe they have loosened up by now, that was in 1984. I however, never recovered, LOL!

Two and two halves. English and Russian fluently, and Ukrainian and Spanish half-way. I voted two though. : )

I'm fluent in Latin, as a second language, and I've got some ancient Greek, but less than I'd like. Trying to pick up German, now.
