How many times have you been cussed out?

I know, strange question, but what the hell? It occurred to me that I've been cussed out twice in my life, both times by much older men I didn't know when I was a teenager.

I was in high school & on a trip to Europe & I wandered into some shop in Paris. It looked open for business with the door propped open & I went in when I saw all the perfume bottles everywhere and asked if they sold or custom made perfumes. The old guy started swearing a blue streak at me. Well, I imagine that's what was happening, based on tone & gestures, but since it was street French, I was ill equipped to decipher it! I thought I was going to be assaulted, no kidding! Looking back on the incident, the best I can guess is it was an old handmade perfume workshop. Regardless, that was the first time I was cussed out.

The second time happened in a Church parking lot after Mass let out when I was 16. I was waiting to pick up my sister from Sunday school, next to the Church & this man was furious I was remaining parked in the parking space that he apparently wanted to use as a cut through to beat all the other cars out of the lot. He got out of his car after honking for a good while & came up to my window & was red faced & screaming at me. I was shaken, but I was not going to be bullied! I said I could not leave until I had my sister & this is where I was told she would look for me, then rolled the window back up. I think if my younger brother hadn't been in the car, this "Christian" who obviously learned nothing in Church, would have smashed me &/or the car, he was that livid & I was scared of him! Turns out he was the athletic coach. Looking back as an adult, I recognize rage & that I was really at risk of physical harm, even with all the other Churchgoers milling about. I cannot believe no one spoke up. If I saw a young girl being accosted like that by a grown man, I sure wouldn't stand by & do nothing! Ah, but that's another discussion ;-)

So, those are the two times in my life I was cussed out. How about you? Have you ever been cussed out?

One in junior high during PE. We were playing soccer and I was the goalie. The other team scored on me, and one of my teammate just let me have it.

And then in first job, at a pizza place. I just cussed out by a customer who wanted to pay with her food stamp car, but couldn't pay with her food stamp card because the food stamp card machine was down. Which wasn't my fault.

She didn't stop and leave until another customer threatened to call the cops.

I've worked retail for several years, so I'll just focus on the one time that I remember the most clearly.

A woman showed up about 5 minutes to closing and took a full grocery cart. She had already been told numerous times that we would not wait on her after closing (she was a druggie, used multiple coupons on the wrong item, asked for change, didn't end up having her foodstamp card, would ask to run back home to get her foodstamp card...the list is endless). I caught up to her at closing and told her I would not wait on her. She freaked out and told me she hoped that I would die and my whole family would die...called me a few names. Whatever. My manager escorted her out, and eventually I found out she had been out on parole and had gone back to jail after yet another drug bust.

P.S. I agree that when a grown man is yelling at a young girl, someone should come forth, but I've also been in that position with no response. I simply walked into the girls bathroom where he couldn't follow me and refused to help him.

Oh...and whatever happened to a sport being fun?

No kidding! I was just going to say that about the sports after reading your comment! I want to know why this asshole yelling at you was not corrected??!! That's poor sportsmanship. or is that just an old fashioned concept today? You have touched on another hot button issue for me, the hatefulness surrounding sports. I have no tolerance for any of it - as you say, it's a game! Get over it people!

I am impressed that you thought to go into the women's restroom to get away from the other guy! I'm shocked, though, that he didn't follow, as I expect someone in a rage would. I am sorry to hear that you have has multiple people cuss you out! Working retail explains a lot of that, but it's still unacceptable to me that people think they can treat others like that!

Thanks, I could have used someone like you when that jerk went off. I find, in general, people are sheep & few step up to get involved. I, however have a strong sense of fairness & never hesitate to say something or get involved if I feel a wrong is being committed. (Makes me wish to be a big, strong guy, at times, so I get a little more respect, you know?) I found it especially galling that these people, including rage man, just came out of a Catholic Mass where they are supposed to be trying to be more Christ-like, "Do onto others as you would have them do onto you" & the good Samaritan, ring a bell with these hypocrites? (I can call them that because I was a member of that Church & I know from experience they are the least Christian people I ever met.) Well, enough about that, I am starting to rant, sorry! (BTW, I am not currently a member of any church. I was deeply affected by my experiences with the Catholic Church, and like many, I was driven away from religion, rather than toward it.)

Many times, by many different people. A lot of my family members had anger problems, and my husband has had his fair share of problems with it.

I cannot believe you, one of the nicest, most inoffensive people I have met, have spent your life being demeaned like that! What the hell is wrong with this picture, you know?! Please, tell me your current husband does not cuss at you? You know there is no excuse for that kind of treatment, right? I'm beyond sad to hear this!

What the hell is wrong with people? No one should ever be subjected to that kind of abuse, but for some reason no one bats an eye when it happens in sports! It's a damn game, it means nothing! And as for those who cuss out service people...are they so stupid that they think it will help their cause?

Coming from a highly dysfunctional family, I cannot even count that high.

Other than from family, a few times. I live in NJ and went to college in NYC. Most people are rude sadly.

Too many times to count especially in the work field.
