I don't participate in the games area, but most websites I participate on have a 'games' subforum, or threads and this is the only site I use that gives away any sort of points. I don't think it's for "free points" necessarily as some do actually enjoy game threads. You may not feel it's a valuable part of the site, but for some people looking to just goof around and have fun with the others here, it may be valuable.
