If you lost a ton of weight.... would you change up your style?

Contributor: sunflower sunflower
I lost a lot of weight. Went from a size 12 or 14 jeans to a size 2 or 4 (I'm not even sure which size right now), a size L or XL top to a S or XS. I'm going out and buying a bunch of new clothes right now since mine are falling off me! None of my clothes fit anymore. I'm debating whether I should totally change up the way I dress or wear the same kinda stuff. I've definitely been looking for clothes that are more form fitting lately which I'd never wear before!

Would you change your style if your body shape changed drastically? Maybe in a "new me" sort of way? Just for kicks because you have to buy new clothes? Do you think you wear that you do now because you're not comfortable with your body? What kind of style or dress do you like?

Well, I definitely could not afford to lose "a ton of weight" and still be healthy, so no. I wouldn't change my style. I'm pretty satisfied at the weight I am, so I definitely don't plan on any big changes to my weight & I have a lot of fun with my own style, so there isn't anything I'd change about my style.

If you had to get rid of all of your current clothes and buy new ones, would you change up your style?

I definitely would! The way that I dress to flatter my body the way that it is now would not necessarily apply if I were significantly smaller or larger. In addition, there are a ton of things I wish that I can wear that just don't work with my breast size. If I lost enough weight, hopefully my chest would be shrunk down a little bit and I might be able to pull off fashions that I'm envious of now. I guess it depends on how I lose my weight as well as how much I lose - if I lost a lot of tummy and thigh weight, there are definitely a whole range of fashions that I'd be going for.

If you had to get rid of all of your current clothes and buy new ones, I think I would keep my style the same. I guess I'm boring :/

My style had changed over the years, however in the last ten years band t-shirts and jeans have been a pretty common occurrence for me and i cant see that changing much. I could see myself being a little more comfortable shopping out though if i lost a ton of weight which may change my style some, but probably not by much.

Years ago I went through the same situation, I lost a lot of weight and had to get all new clothes. I did change my style because I bought some things that I didn't feel comfortable wearing when I was heavier or things that they didn't make in bigger sizes.

That's fun!

I think I'm going to stop buying so many T-shirts and jeans and start buying nice pretty things. I have like $300 for my new wardrobe so I should be able to get some nice stuff. I wish I had a stylist or someone to tell me what to buy so I could look really hot but idk.

I'm happy for you! Congratulations! Enjoy your new shape & dress to flatter it! You should still have the same tastes as far as what you think is attractive & colors that look good on you. But now, you probably have less to be concerned about, such as if something will flatter you or not. You can just get it because you like how it looks & chances are it will be available in your size & look good on you. I know that many of the styles I would like to wear just aren't made for larger sizes, let alone would look flattering. You will have so many more choices, experiment! And don't dismiss something that catches your eye without trying it on first, because you may not realize yet how things will actually look on your new shape. I hope you have a good time!

As for myself, I know I would still be drawn to all the same colors, prints & such, I just would have so many more options because I wouldn't be worrying about disguising perceived figure flaws. I could wear a skinny jean, for example, without having to wear something looser on top just to hide my tummy. I would definitely be wearing more form fitting clothes!

Haha, thanks for making adjustments for us small people!

If all my clothes disappeared and I needed all new ones, I might try to go a little dressier than my normal tshirt-and-jeans. I have a lot of clothes I've had forever, so a change might be nice! I barely notice clothes. It's never been my focus!

Maybe I'll try updating my wardrobe one day.

Congratulations to you, Sunflower! Enjoy your new look! You don't need a stylist - just try on everything, take pics in the dressing room, and show your most fashion-obsessed friend! She'll help you choose what's right for you!

I wouldn't change my style, but I would wear more different things that I could pull off better by loosing some weight!

Great job losing weight! I do dress differently when I am skinnier and put more make up, because I feel more attractive when I am happy with my body.

Thank you to everyone congratulating me!
I'm gonna try on a bunch of things that I normally wouldn't! It's weird how something can look terrible on the rack but look AWESOME on. And vice versa,

Wahine my regular colors are black and grey. I feel most comfortable in black and grey and gravitate to those. I guess I should try some more fun colors or something! I just want to STAY AWAY from jeans and t shirts. That was half my wardrobe! I want some cute stylish stuff.

I still like long dresses because I dislike my saddlebags and butt but I absolutely love the rest of me! It's like all the amount of fat I have left just stayed in my thighs lol.

I've lost 40-45 and am well on my way to 50. Certainly am planning to buy new form fitting clothes certainly more stylish than my usual plain jane attire. It feels good to feel feminine again. If I loose another 25 I'll be down to the weight I was when I married... 145.

Now I just need someone to help, I absolutely hate clothes shopping, get me in a computer or hardware store anytime solo, but clothes? Yech! I hate running back and forth between the racks and trying on clothes in those tiny rooms. Its exhausting.

Those are called curves, girl! Own 'em! But seriously, congratulations! That is really awesome, and totally affirms my own goals. I hope to be catching up to you someday soon! Keeping those goals realistic, so trying to go from 10 to 6.

I've always felt the same way about my body. I have sturdy hips, a muscular, but not necessarily petite, butt; and no matter how in shape I am, I will always have those stupid "saddle bags" on my thighs.

However, I have learned that the right cut and material can REALLY make a difference. Wool, tweed, and thick plushy cotton are all my friends.

Since it sounds like you might have my body shape, go for sheath dresses and pencil skirts, cut right at or just above the knee, fitted but not skin tight through the hips and thighs, and fitted around your trim waist line. Pick up a few super cute cardigans, fun jewelry, belts, and button down shirts, and you have a recipe for tons of awesome outfits! Oh, and don't forget the nude pumps for those skinny gams!

Once I have my ideal size, and a wee bit more money than I do now, that's pretty much my plan. I would also be way more comfortable in shorts and leather leggings. So yeah, a few great pairs of jeans, a few flattering button down shirts (my man shoulders look kind of awesome in them), and tons of dresses and pencil skirts. I might also decide to actually tan my pasty white legs.

Thanks for the tips, Jaimes! I'll definitely be putting some of those on my shopping list and searching for those cuts.

I love leather leggings to. Keep going and I hope you can reach your goal soon!
Sounds like we have the same body type AND the same pasty white skin! I hope I can get out in the sun a lot this summer as well.

I'll answer this. If I lost a ton of weight, I would be skin and bones.. Anyway, I absolutely love the way I dress. My stile would be the same.

I do not know if it would be considered changing my style, but I would buy clothes that fit nicely that I really liked on the rack and then on me after trying them on. I do not have a consistent style to begin with, so it really would be interesting to see what I came up with.....

I'm a size 10 or 12 now, and a large top. If I went to a size 2, there would be nothing left of me to dress!

I have the same taste, but my clothing is dictated by finances (even at the thrift store). But I'd sure as hell get the cuter, classier clothes because they're never made for my current size.

Most definitely! I'm overweight and wear loose fitting clothing. When I lose the extra weight (I am seriously working on this), I will buy clothes that are fitted.
