I've been seeing reports on the news, on the internet, and even on the Weather Channel about the dangers of kiddie pools that many people often end up overlooking and can have very tragic consequences. According to recent statistics, a child drowns every 5 days in a small backyard pool. Those are numbers we can easily get down with just a few simple precautions. This article on Yahoo has some great and easy tips and more information. In addition to some of the tips they've listed, you can also turn the small pools completely upside down to empty them and make sure that there's no water left in them at all.
Do you have an inflatable pool in your backyard?

Sad but so true, it only takes like an inch of water to drown. I have heard of kids drowning in a 5 gallon bucket before. When we had a small pool we always emptied it to be safe.

When I was a kid, we had a tiny pool thing (it wasn't inflatable, but it was portable, and folded up). It was always drained and put away when not in use, and I was always supervised when I was in it.

I almost drowned in the pond in our backyard when I was little, so I don't think I'd ever leave kids unattended where there's water.

We do have one but monkey cannot use it unless one of his sisters or a parental unit is outside to moniter the situation. Since we don't want mosquitos having wild sex parties in our backyard we dump the pool soon after he is done.

My Mother almost drowned in less than 18 inches of water at age three so, ya, we have never taken chances with our kids.

we do not have a pool, to much of a possible problem with kids in the neighbor hood.

We sort of have a pool - we have a 8 foot stock tank that we use as a hot tub/pool. It is heated with a wood stove. It is covered and there is a lock on the cover. The younger kids do not go in unless the oldest or mom/dad is there.

I don't have a pool...although, some days I wish I did.

Did you know that children under one can hold their breath underwater?
We have a pool, though that's because my sister doesn't have a garden, so she keeps the kids' garden toys here.
