Is anybody else here quitting coke?

Contributor: TheirPet TheirPet
Not the drug, silly! The soda. I successfully quit for a couple years and then got sucked into the addiction again unexpectedly. Who would have thought quitting brown soda would be so hard.

So, have you tried to quit? Was it hard?

I don't drink soda. I like my calories/sugar in solid form so they're more satisfying.

I've tried...I have terrible insomnia, so I cut back to two a day years ago. Then I got on prescription sleep meds that really do the trick on my insomnia, so I have kind of gotten back into a four...five...a day habit. I want to cut back again, simply because they are empty calories, but I just love my sodas so much!

I never liked soda, actually. I just don't like bubbles in my drink, I know how strange that sounds, but I just don't like carbonation.

I got off caffeine a couple decades ago, so I was down to drinking caffeine-free coke. Then in 2010 I started getting kidney stones, so had to get off even the caffeine-free coke. It was easy, I don't miss it at all. I'll still have a dark, caffeine-free soda from time to time - and boy does it taste good, I really savor it! But I don't miss it in my day-to-day life one bit.

Interesting...I am drinking a real coke now (it was leftover), which is unusual. I am actually partial to Pepsi/Mt Dew products (diet). I have long been addicted to soda. I just love the bubbles and bite, but I'm aware of the bad effects too. It's my main vice, so that puts it in perspective.

Recently I got a Primo flavorstation (like a sodastream, but cheaper to refill CO2 $4 @ dicks sporting goods). I love this thing. The sodas taste fresher (I buy sodastream and primo flavors) and now when I drink regular drinks I find I don't like them as much (maybe the sodium?). Anyway..I feel a little healthier as a result, but I don't feel that addiction as much. I make what I want, when I want. This is my 3rd month. Its not really the caffeine I crave, so much as the taste and the carbonation.

If anyone wants info about them feel free to PM me.

I would find it hard to quit soda cold turkey. With this you could use lemon juice, tea or other natural flavors and ween yourself off.

Ultimately I'd like to find flavors with Stevia or some other natural calorie free sweetener though.

I quit soda years ago when I went vegan and tried to eat healthier in general. I was a teen, so I drank tons of it. It was pretty easy for me, actually. I quit soda, meat, fish, and dairy all at once. Once it was out of my system, I felt so much better that I was never plagued by cravings again. I suppose I'm just lucky.

I quit soda in general a while back. Not that hard if you just don't keep it around the house.

It was easy for me to quit drinking all sodas since my stomach couldn't handle me drinking them anymore.

When we lived in our previous home, the water was so loaded with iron and other minerals it was undrinkable. We went through the pop then--but after moving to this home we just purchased our well is amazing!! The water is fresh, clear and so pure, you have to add salt to get it to boil. We drink a soda occasionally when we go somewhere, but that is about the extent of it.

I don't drink coke. Mountain Dew all the way!

I'm trying to quit 'em. It's Mt. Dew. For me, it's like smoking. I've quit before and it can be easy for me - if I put my mind to it. It can be hard as hell if I lose my focus, though.

I replace it with going to the gym. If I'm at the gym, which is a place that I'm having to learn how to love, then I'm not going to waste what I've done there by going home and drinking a bunch of empty calories. I stick with water, because I'm already going in the right direction.

I don't love working out, but after having surgery and not being able to do it a while, I actually missed it a little. I just got released to go back to the gym last week, so I'm going to be making a lot of changes this week. Y'all wish me luck and then hope that I don't need it.

I have gone off and on the coke wagon for years. Sometimes it's easy, other times it seems painstakingly difficult.
