Is anybody else here quitting coke?

I have always found it strange to hear that people are addicted to bubbley beverages like coke or pepsi.

I hardly drink the stuff.

My brother-in-law bought one of those carbination machines where he makes his own coke and much prefers that taste. He said it tasted better and was cheaper in the long run then buying cans or bottles of coke. Maybe that will help??

I don't really like the taste of coke so it was easy to not get sucked in

I'm not quitting it, but only because I drink maybe two or three 2 liters a year of it. xD
For the most part when we buy soda we buy the generic store brand stuff so my Diet Coke habit isn't much of an issue.

Actually pretty much all my Diet Coke gets consumed around my birthday since our family has a tradition of letting the birthday person pick out their dinner. I usually pick Diet Coke and Taco Bell. *w*

We rarely have pop here so I don't drink it that much. I love it though

Not the drug, silly! The soda. I successfully quit for a couple years and then got sucked into the addiction again unexpectedly. Who would have thought quitting brown soda would be so hard.

So, have you tried to quit? Was it hard?
good for you!

Not quitting...but then again, my soda of choice is a Diet Root Beer, not Coke.

No coke! Mountain dew! And I can give it up for a month of two but I don't drink coffee so it's how I get caffeine

I don't drink enough of it to be a problem. But over the years I have gone from regular to diet.

I just love carbonation I think and the taste of cola, mt dew etc.

I got a carbonation machine too and have since come to prefer the taste of making my own now. It's like a fountain drink vs. canned.

I rarely buy soda now, but drink as much as ever from my machine. At least I've eliminated any sodium.

I gave up caffeinated pop twice, once in my late teens when I had urinary surgery and had to avoid all caffeine and again during my last pregnancy. The last time I gave it up was thirteen years ago, and I haven't gone back to it.

The first week was a little difficult, I has some headaches and felt tired, but I knew all that caffeine wasn't good for the baby, and I have high blood sugar when I am pregnant and REFUSE to consume artificial sweeteners, they are worse than all the sugar in the world.

I drank a lot of water and felt fine in a week or so.

Pop is just nasty stuff. I rarely drink it now and even on the rare occasion I order it in a restaurant, I NEVER finish the glass. Humans are infinitely adaptable.....

I don't really drink much soda... My issue is coffee. I love it, and drink a cup or more a day whenever I can. But I get headaches when I don't drink it, and I'm sure the sugar content (I drink 2/3 coffee mixed with 1/3 hot cocoa) is bad for me.

I have cut back, but see no need to quit. I don't have to have it every day.

I just cannot stop I tried slowly and was down to one can a day. for like 2 weeks then for some reason i got depressed and started drinking more. I love it but it is not healthy and not good for skin. I was trying to drink straight water at one point and noticed a difference in skin. it was glowing more and more hydrated.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one addicted to the brown stuff! Lol I love Coke! Ever since I was a teen I've loved it. I know it's really bad for you with all the sodium, sugar, and caffeine but when I drink it I don't really care. I quit a year ago for a few months and for some reason I went back to it. I don't want to cut it out completely so I'm just going to try to have only one a day and then go from there.

I actually quit five years ago, cold turkey. I made sure to have cold water with me at all times, usually a frozen bottle of water. I don't know what it was, I just couldn't drink water from a glass. I was addicted to the caffeine, so I dealt with the withdrawal symptoms for about a week or so, but I refused to have "just a little bit" of soda, because then I would just be putting off the withdrawal. After that, what I mainly missed was the carbonation.

About six months after I quit, I was at my high school's senior picnic. They had Barq's Root Beer. I love Barq's Root Beer. So I got one. I was just going to have one, as a treat. I made it through half and I was so tired of the bubbles; they were too much.

The next time I had soda after that, I managed to only get through a quarter of it. And then the last time I had soda, I had one sip. It was too carbonated, it was too acidic, it was too sweet. I sometimes think of the flavour and miss it, but the rest of it just isn't appealing.

And if you -really- miss the carbonation, you could always try flavoured, sparkling water. I never did that only because I don't like flavoured water, nor do I believe water should be carbonated, but it's an option for those that do like it.

I don't drink it often, but on a hot day, and with a real thirst for SOMETHING....well, that Coke bottle has a POWERFUL pull...and nothing else, including Seven Up,or Pepsi, Dr.Pepper or some Juice Drink will cut it.

I'm an anomaly - as a kid and young adult I never drank cola. But since caffeine has risen to near cult status and I don't drink coffee - I indulge in colas once in a while - I prefer Coke Zero - but I also like the taste of Dr. Pepper.

Me too, hubby got me hooked again after 22 yrs of not drinking any soda. Damn him!! Yes, it's very hard since he still buys it and drinks it at dinner every night.

I don't drink soda all that often, so it's not a concern of mine. I'd say I only drink it once or twice a month if that, these days. It's just not all that exciting to me.

Tonight, I did have a cream soda, though! That's the first soda I've had in...I don't even remember how long. It was a nice treat, so I'm good for a few more months.
