Just noticed a question about Headaches. Let's bust an old myth here at EF. Do HEADACHES stop YOU from having sex?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
Even if I get a "headache" (and sometimes I get WHOPPERS from my sinus issues), this does NOT stop me from enjoying sex. Sometimes it makes my pain GO AWAY.

That old "not tonight dear, I have a headache" is sure NOT the rule in my house.

What about YOU? Does a headache turn OFF your sex drive?

No, but I don't get really bad headaches.

It would depend on the headache.

Sometimes I get migraines so severe that I am incapable of moving, feel nauseated by even slight movements, and my whole body hurts.

A regular headache, though, or tension headache and sometimes sinus headaches, are alleviated by sex. The reason is because it expands the blood vessels during orgasm

So, medically, the excuse "not tonight I have a headache", is worse for the person saying it

If it's a headache than sex is still on, if it's a migraine I can't even be touched.

I get really bad headaches and don't want anyone to touch me. I let them affect my mood way too much. When my head starts to hurt all I want to do is pop some Advil and go to sleep.

It depends on how bad it is and if I have other symptoms!

Most of the time sex helps with the pain. I don't really feel up to it at first, but by the time we are finished I am thrilled I didn't object.

I don't have really bad headaches, nothing an Advil can't fix, so I don't let headaches get in the way.

the endorphins released during sex actually alleviate headaches, so i don't really buy that excuse. i'm not sure how it works for migraines though

My every day med-muted chronic migraine and muscle contraction headaches do not prevent me from having sex. However, my full blown, Two-Vicodin-and Fioracet-not working, Aura inducing, vomit inducing, light blinding, losing vision, forgetting words, finger and toe numbing, skin paling, body shaking full blown migraines will waylay me for a short time.

HEARD that! I get terrible migraines, and please believe that if you come near me in a sexual way during one, once I am better? I am lopping off one of your limbs. Migraines are NO FUCKING JOKE. Hell, so are bad headaches. Why would you want someone to have sex with you if they were in pain or discomfort and weren't enjoying it? Seems to indicate more of an issue on the pursuing party's part rather than the ailing party's part...

I don't get headaches very often, and they're usually a sign of something else - stress or a cold. I don't think that type of headache would stop me from having sex, but I certainly wouldn't be in the mood if I was stressed or sick.

My Man knows I rarely say no to sex. Ever. However, if I have an icepack on my head and am lying in bed or dying on the couch with an ice pack, he wouldn't even think of attempting.... coitus.

Yes, as others have said it depends on the headache. If it isn't a major, I'm too sick to even blink headache, sex usually really does make it feel better. Otherwise, forget about it!

It really depends on how severe my headache is at the time. I have declined due to headpain so severe I couldn't move, but also have agreed and enjoyed the sex.

I rarely get migraines, or the mind-blowing headaches that my fellow members are describing, so no, I don't let a headache stop me. Indeed, sex is supposed to cure the little headaches.

If I have a headache, you can go stimulate your genitals by yourself. The only thing coming near me is tylenol and maybe, if presented kindly enough, a neck-rub.

Headaches are just a thing for me. I tend to have -really- bad ones (not counting the horrific migraines, and if someone tried to sex me up during one of those, good lord) and the last thing I'm interested in is anything involving my body.

I often get migraines so yes, a migraine can defnitely turn you off. A headache is nothing compared to a killer migraine. I get them for about a week straight once a month and sometimes a few just here and there! I have had them for 2 days now and take meds to help and it will make a huge difference sometimes and in those cases we'll still have sex, but he's had migraines too so we both know what it's like and don't expect the other to suffer through one of those.

I can see sex helping a minor headache, but no sex is going to stop a full blown migraine. No siree! If anything, it'll only jar you around and make it worse. Never fun.

I never get headaches now, but when I did a good orgasm would send it packing so I would never say no cause of a headache!

Now days I only ever get migraines instead. They definitely stop me. I have tried on a number of times to orgasm to kill the migraine, but it just makes my head pound even worse.

No, when I get a headache I'm actively trying to have sex or play solo so I can have an orgasm in an attempt to make it go away!

Usually sexual arousal makes me feel better! But if I have a really bad headache I wouldn't be able to get in the mood. I could see it happening, but I don't think it's been a problem. Being exhausted was always my main issue, after working so hard all week. I get more headaches at work than I do during sexual encounters. @_@

A mild headache won't stop me b/c orgasm might help it go away; a migraine keeps me from doing much but flopping on the bed or floor.

I agree with you. If I'm sick or have a headache I love having sex. I feel like it helps my headache and if I don't feel good I think it helps take my mind off of it.

If ive just got the start of a headache that's the best time for me. Otherwise its a definite NO. Usually with my headaches as the day progresses it only gets worse and I end up in bed for the night. Migraines is a never. Dont talk to me,come near me, or even look at me.
