I think that would only work if you have the right chemistry with your best friend. I've had male best friends that were too much like my brother to ever think of dating or marrying them. I think what IS important is to make sure that your partner is your best friend, even if it doesn't start that way. My partner is now my best friend, but it started off with just mad chemistry, and we simply enjoyed each other's company. As we got to know each other better, we realized how much we had in common, and how interesting our differences were. Little by little, we started to really know each other inside and out and just became best friends.

I did marry my best friend, my HighSchool sweetheart and my first boyfriend I broke all the rules and ony regret the reason we got married...to appease my parents (who were not appeased...just for the record).
I would tell anyone that if it feels right and you are ready to spend the time and energy to carve out and build a life that fits each of you then go for it!

Like Airen Wolf, I married my best friend. We started dating at 18 and he's still my favorite person in the world (our kids aside). You need, love, respect and friendship for a marriage to work. And lots of compromise and hard work.

I too married my best friend. We dated for most of high school and have been in love ever since. Couldn't dream of going through my days without her.

My best friend and I would be great married, but neither of us is into other women :\

However, if I marry again, he'll have to be my friend first.

We were friends first and eventually became best friends and lovers, so yes I would say I married my best friend. He makes me very happy.

I'm not married yet, but considering my best friend is my dad, then I don't think I'll be doing that. But my other best friend, my girl, I would consider marrying. Just don't tell her that for a few years, okay?

Thinking back on it, no I didn't marry my best friend. My best male friend at the time was more like my brother. We masterminded a lot of stupid college prank-type stuff together (or played them on each other), partied a lot, bitched about our boyfriends/girlfriends to each other, and covered each other's backs when things got rough. If I'd have married him, we'd have probably killed each other by now . Alan was his polar opposite, but he & I are the ones who clicked, and now that I've matured (a little anyway) I would say that yes Alan is my best friend.

I have 4 best friends and one of them is my guy. So yes, I believe that it can be the greatest thing to marry your best friend, but I think your partner really should be that: your best friend. You should be able to go to them with any and everything, trust and love them unconditionally.

I don't think it should necessarily be the best friend that you have right now, but I do think that the person you marry should end up your best friend. I also think you can have more than one best friend, and my husband is on the list of people I'd call "best friend" for sure.

I'm going to marry my best friend (we've been together for 2.5 years) and we were before we started. As others as said, you don't have to start off as best friends but it should grow to be that you two are best friends!
