We don't have em, but we don't have a lot of bikers. I could see it still being handy though.

We have some in my community, but we need more. There are still a lot of bike accidents.

Many times a cyclist will "ride the line" because there is are cars parked on the street to the right of the bike lane. This leads to a serious danger of being car doored. In order to avoid that threat most smart cyclist will ride outside the danger zone of being car doored and that means riding to the left of the bike lane and near the traffic lane.

Yes, that's an excellent point. Also, bike lanes are often full of road debris like glass, rocks and other nasty things. Stuff you can't even see from a car, but which would give a cyclist a flat tire or make them crash. Most places, even very bike-friendly places, don't even bother to include the bike lanes when they clean the streets, and all the crap from the road ends up in the bike lane. That's another reason I'm in favor of bike lanes which are separated from the car travel lanes.

I've only ever seen a handful of bike lanes. Honestly, I thought they were for bikes not motorcycles.

I totally agree about sidewalks. I've lived a couple of places without them and I HATED not being able to simply walk places without fearing for my life.

Having to drive everywhere completely sucks--and of course, kids often don't ... more
Seriously. And what's even more ridiculous is that there are people in my town lobbying -against- them installing sidewalks, citing that it would be "pointless."

We barely have sidewalks on 99% of the streets and I can think of two major roads that have a bike lane on them but I don't see too many cyclists either. It's a town of suburban sprawl - everything is quite a bit of distance from actual residences.

I can't even use a crosswalk without risking my life, so not sure I would chance using a bike lane, even though - in theory - they are a good idea.

I don't mind them because I never have to use them and never drive/ come in contact with bicyclists using them. If I drove I'd probably be scared to hit them in the lane. If I used them, I'd probably be scared to get hit

They have their place and purpose ... Better than seeing someone on a bike get ran over by a truck or something.....

I walk, and I appreciate bike planes, which get bikers out of the way and stop them from running me over. Unfortunately, they're not around where I live.

We don't in my town, but I am close to NYC where they do have them. I wish my town would adopt them. It is so much safer and more convenient. As it is now, bike riders have to drive in the regular lane. People get mad and zoom around them; more often than not, the bikers almost get hit.
