Pray for Japan

Contributor: Dusk Dusk
I expect most of you are in bed at this time, but if you haven't already heard, Japan was hit with an 8.8-8.9 earthquake today along with at least 37 aftershocks (16 above a 6.0) and a tsunami with waves over 10m high. You can see one of many videos of the tsunami here.

Please keep Japan in your thoughts and prayers, as well as all of the islands and coastlines standing in this tsunami's way. I can only imagine the aftermath of these events once the damage and toll have been assessed.

Pray for Japan.

I've been watching it as it happens... My prayers go out to Japan, the Pacific Islands, the West Coast of the USA, Hawai'i, Alaska, and the 20 territories and nations that are under tsunami watch now.

I heard something in passing as I was checking the weather. I am going to turn on CNN and see what is going on.

I hope there aren't too many deaths. Terrible.

Hundreds have died & many more are missing.

An 8.9 earthquake is 190x stronger than a 7.0 - which is a strong quake in CA.

We're praying for the Japanese people.

I'm not sure if it's an exaggeration, but I read that the Japan quake was 8000 times stronger than the one that leveled Christchurch, NZ last month. Someone also estimated that the energy release was equivalent to the amount used in the US in one month. True or not, the devastation is real, although hopefully loss of life will be a minimum.

IT'S CRAZY! I woke up to an e-mail from my brother in-law (Who lives in Japan) informing me of this tragedy. He stated that "We did feel the quake but are far enough away that it just felt like a powerful tremor here." Thanks goodness. My brother and sister in-law live far away enough from the coast, so they are out of harms way. The videos are just crazy. My thoughts and prayers go out to Japan Hawaii and all that's affected. Here is where I've been watching most of it all from the internet. News About Japan and This shows all the little quakes that has followed the big one in Japan. Look at the dates, craziness. Japan got hit hard, Good thing this wasn't a direct hit to Japan and was out in the ocean or it could of bean a catastrophic event!

The tsunamis seem to be the main thing really. It's doing allot of damage.

I was glad to wake up this morning and find that our CA coast wasn't damaged all that badly. I was worried it would flood inland or something when it got here. Still, the images from Japan...and there was another 6.0 on another portion of the island this morning. The numbers are starting to come in...it's looking really bad.

I do have them in my prayers. I guess, to me, it was better to happen there. The Japanese people are used to it and had a long time to prepare. That will cut the loss of life, compared to elsewhere. Nevertheless, it is still tragic!

I was watching it unfold last night. In fact, I saw live the first video of the tsunamis as they hit the beach. It was a terrible feeling watching them sweep through the town and catch up to cars that were trying desperately to flee. I knew full well that I was watching some people die before my very eyes. I've seen people die on tape (e.g., the World Trade Centers' collapse), but I think this was the first time I ever saw someone actually die while it was actually happening. It was definitely sobering and sad.
