Both...it depends on how I am feeling at bedtime and if I have a new book. I go through them so fast!!

Watching TV/surfing the internet/staring at a screen has been shown to make it harder to go to sleep because of the light in your eyes. That said, I have my own before-bed routine, but I'm not sharing.

We watch TV sometimes until the more restless of us gets sleepy, or read to one another. Then when the lights go out we talk until one of us falls asleep. The sleepy-chatter feels so intimate and nice, and it's one of my favorite parts of being with my man. When I was single or in other couples I'd read or play video games until passing out (or in college, write lab-reports #_#).

I'll web surf, watch some Netflix, etc. Sometimes I'll read instead, just depends on what books I've got and how I'm feeling.

For me it depends. I rarely watch satellite since I have netflix and I just watch it on my computer. Sometimes I will read before going to bed if I have a good book, but then again I read the book until it is done and do nothing else.

Before bed I'd typically play on my computer or watch tv. Oddly enough, when I'm exhausted, I can't focus on a book, but I can on my computer or tv.

I usually sneak into my toddler's room and change her diaper while she's sleeping. She drinks so much during the day that I was concerned she might have juvenile diabetes and had to ask the Dr. about it. Turns out she's just thirsty, and I don't want her to lay in a wet bed if I wouldn't change her.

Read or play on my 3DS. Plants VS Zombies helps me calm down. Or a nice long bath helps, too.

My partner likes to do both, but I can't really do either or I end up just wanting to stay up later. For me the only thing I can really do right before bed is brush my teeth and just lay down for a while and start relaxing. It helps if one of our cats wants to be cuddly. A nice bath is great too.

I usually don't read mindless books so reading will keep me awake rather than put me to sleep. Also, I want to be alert when I read in order to comprehend, remember and appreciate the material.

I don't really enjoy watching TV, and I don't get to read as often as I would like anymore... So, I would definitely love to read every night before bed. But I don't get to sleep early enough. Maybe when little man gets older....?

I've read that it is healthy to do something like stitch work or crochet. reading is healthy too. Something about the side to side motion of the eye stimulates sleep.
03/28/2012
Contributor: js250 js250
Reading at least keeps your brain excersizing and depending on the book, you learn a lot of new concepts, ideas, etc.
03/28/2012
Contributor: Breas Breas
I think reading would be "healthier" definitely.

Reading helps me to fall asleep by relaxing my brain. It's a great way to fall asleep if it works for you (on the other hand, if you get too engaged it could have the opposite effect!).

Reading would be healthier maybe I need to do that instead of watching TV. But I do listen to music when I go to sleep on the TV. Direct Tv just added Pandora so I turn on my Yanni or classical music and clunk out.

More healthy to read. Or do nothing. Most people could use more sleep

Fascinating. I normally knit when I'm wide awake right after work. Maybe I should move knitting time to bed time. ^_^

I've been told it's pretty unhealthy to watch TV before bed, as it ramps up your mind and then you can't get to sleep. Books are much better for before-bedtime entertainment.

I have read many articles saying it is better to read before bed, it's supposed to relax your brain.

Reading is healthier for you - the lights from computers and TVs are supposed to make it harder for you to fall asleep. Doesn't stop me from doing it though!
03/29/2012
Contributor: Azule Azule
Definitely reading. TV and lights including those on your self phone cause your brain to function in a different way, one which it excites it as opposed to calming it down before bed. Just a higher bar of stimulus.

I think reading would be healthier. I've heard that it's not good to have tv on before bed because it disrupts our sleep patterns or something like that.

It's best to not do anything IN bed except sleep and have sex, to train yourself to go to sleep when you get into bed. Good sleep hygiene and all.

However, I definitely think reading is a great thing to do. Whether it's healthier or not before bed, I don't know, but I do think it's more stimulating for your brain overall than TV.
