Selling FREE Gifts on Classifieds - Would You? (Private poll)

Contributor: jmex83 jmex83
I was scrolling through the Classifieds, looking to see if anyone had the Contour I for sale (Because we realllllly want it and in the market for one lol) and I noticed that there was someone that was selling one of the free gifts that you receive with your orders! Granted, they were selling it for the same price that you would have paid for it on the site, but seriously? Selling a free gift? What are your thoughts about this? (I know I might catch flak for this from someone-but please, its just my opinion, not looking to start an argument or offend anyone) PRIVATE POLL_Please be honest!

To each is own..but it's a little bit mean to EF to take money away from them (from the money they would be getting for selling that toy) after they were nice enough to give you something for free.

This is what I was thinking. EF is so generous to us with all the freebies they give us. I was thinking "Is it not enough that they give us points to buy items? Then you're going to turn around and sell it!?" that would be like selling a gift card for cash, it just doesn't seem right to me. Like I said, i know im going to catch hell for this from someone lol, but its just my personal opinion that I wouldn't do it. Just wanted to see if I was in the majority or not.

I don't have a problem with other people doing this, but I don't do this myself. Honestly, I don't think anyone will buy them.

I think overall it is just a bit rude and to an extent tacky, but if someone needs money desperately enough to earn then sell a free item, then they're probably in pretty bad shape so I guess I would not mind.

Giving out free product is a part of Eden's marketing strategy. They won't be doing it if they are losing money over it. Most of the freebies aren't really worth anything, which is why they are free.

Last weekend, there was a promotion from saks.com in which if you buy over 500 dollars of product, you get 100 dollars of gift card. I actually added one more item to my cart just to get the gift card.

I used to add item to my cart to get certain free gifts. After getting a few bullets and heart seductions in the past for free, most of them turned out defective. I stopped doing this. Yes, I tried to exchange them, but the replacements would remain defective.

It's crossed my mind to sell the gift card from saks for 90 dollars on ebay since I don't want to buy anything else from their site at the moment. If I do sell this gift card, it's pretty much like using a coupon that saved me around 20%.

Same with free gift from Eden, if you manage to sell it, look at it as you got a coupon for a few dollars off. I truly don't think the free toys are worth much though.

I noticed that too and had to chuckle a little. I wouldn't do it, I don't think it's wrong or bad, but I doubt anyone will buy it.

I wouldn't do that...it's kind of mean to EF I would just give it to a friend

I saw that.....I don't know if it's "shady" but..not to be mean, but who needs money THAT bad? I admit that everything I order on here is 'paid' for in points, but that is different, I EARN those points, and here is someone selling a free gift for cash.

I don't know, it just seems kind of wrong.

I'm glad somebody asked this because I was wondering if people did that. I personally, think it's shady. I feel bad enough excepting a free gift knowing I'm not going to use it. On the other hand, I don't feel so bad because I end up giving them to friends who end up enjoying it more than I ever would.

I think it's kind of a dick move, and I personally wouldn't do it, but it's Eden's choice to give the free toys away and it's your choice what you do with them. I would rather pick something I'll actually use.

If you do not use it or want it, then do not order it, in my opinion. However, this is a free country and if EF does not have rules about selling free items, then it is legitimate. I would not do this. If you really need the cash, sell it on ebay...or somewhere.

Nope nope nope, would not do this. Seems cheap.

They arn't really worth much anyway. Plus no one will buy them. Not worth the effort. Also underhanded

Depends on the circumstances. I wouldn't sell some random cheap toy but if I had, say, something discontinued that a lot of people coveted and I just happened to get for free I might.

I don't think it's right.

But if the toy was brand new and it's been a long time since it was "the free toy" I think it might be ok, as long as it's priced appropriately. But right at the moment I think it's kind of rude because EF gave it to you for free and you're just trying to make money off of it. I don't like this. =[

See, I was thinking about this too. I suppose that in this case, I might do this. IF it had been a while or if I seen something in the forums where folks were asking about where they could find one or someone begging for them to bring that item back if its discontinued, then I would contact that person and say "Hey, I have one of these, if you're interested!" Of course,If I don't use it anymore, I'd give it to them for price of shipping.

I agree with the "Don't get it if you won't use it" comments Im seeing. Thing is, I get all the free stuff that I can, when I can even if I won't use it. Simply because I am running a blog and I promote the crap out of EF, So I will use those items as giveaway prizes OR I give them to my friends . Its fun because I have a bag full of freebie toys and I will just let my friends sift through them and pick something out I LOVE spreading the love! Especially when I know that a lot of my friends cannot afford some of this stuff and most don't have time to spend on EF to make any points really.

To each their own at the end of the day.

I think of it like this. If someone actually buys it... whose the one laughing?

If you can't personally use the toy, you shouldn't load it up into your cart as a freebie. That's just my opinion though.

I wouldn't do it myself, but really.. you can't judge peoples situations without being them in them (and in this case, especially as you don't know the sellers situation).

Who needs money that badly? In this economy? Many people need money that badly.

i think its wrong EF already does alot for its customers with the free gifts discounts and points systems that its a little rude to profit off their generosity

I don't think it's the worst crime against humanity ever, but not awesome to do, either. I imagine it would be pretty hard to find a buyer for an item that at least half the people that use the site already got for free. If you're in a bind and need some cash, you'd probably be way better off selling it on e-bay or something.

I can kind of see an exception if it was the free gift from like a year ago and was discontinued now, though.

I don't see the problem with it, but I wouldn't do it.

It is hard to get anyone to purchase an item from you anyways. I don't think they will be selling it.

I don't like that at all. I feel like if you got it for free, than you should either keep it, or give it away. Eden does so much for us as far as extras and free gifts, and to do this is kind of like spitting in their face. I just don't agree with it.

You would kind of be selling Eden products without them making any money on it..

It would be pretty lame, in my opinion.

I haven't done this, but I have sold used toys on the Classifieds and thrown in a used freeby into the order. If I get a free gift, use it, and hate it that's often what I do after writing the review.

The one that I'm talking about was a used Silicone Finger Bunny. The person had bought maybe 5 other used things from me, and I figured that I got it free (actually got $.50 off of it in points for the review) so why not toss it in to sweeten the deal?
