Do you ever want to pet service animals?

Do you ever really want to pet a service dog or animal, even though that's not their purpose? I'm guilty.. But I don't ever actually pet them.

I wish there was a way to give a "You go, dog. Thanks for your care." nod to a service dog but I doubt a dog would understand it.

Although I would love to pet a service dog, it is not the best etiquette to pet one when it's on duty.

I would love to hug a service dog, but I refrain. I do make sure to send them some positive energy though, along with a smile. We all know dogs can tell what we're thinking! They know when we're proud of them and happy with them, whether we're strangers or their people.

No while some are super cute I know they are WORKING dogs and aren't out in public to be loved on. I usually make a comment of "Awe he/she is so adorable" and smile an go on about what I was doing.

I'm a huge dog person but I never pet or approach a service dog. It just brightens my day to see them though

I always feel the impulse just because I love dogs, but of course I never follow through with it.

I love dogs so I would like to pet them but you certainly shouldn't pet a guide dog.

As much as i love animals i try to never even approach a service dog, unless it's to ask what the breed is (if it's a dog), and directing any and all comments/questions to the owner because the animal is working and needs to stay alert and focused on its purpose.
I know many people get borderline harassed when out with service animals for their anxiety or depression because many people are under the impression that if you dont have a physical handicap then you can come right up to the dog and distract it from its work by petting or talking to it.
While it's always polite (but more so an issue of safety) to ask to pet ANY animal and get permission from the owner i tend to avoid the question all together when it comes to service animals, although there have been a few times i've talked with someone with their working dog and they will say it's okay for me to pet their animal.

I have been guilty of that in the past. After learning more about them, I have learned to let them take care of their person...they do such an important job!!

My urge is to pet them, since I love animals, but I wouldn't dare. I only have once when I was sitting in a park and a man with a service dog sat next to me. The dog sniffed me and the man asked if I was okay with it. I said of course since I adore animals. He said I could pet the dog if I wanted to, so of course, I did.
