This isn't so much a story as an odd fact.

In the town I grew up in, the funeral home was this enormous three story building with odd rooms and just a general strange atmosphere.

It used to be a brothel. It's also supposedly haunted.
Oh, surely someone could come up with a great horror nobel about a funeral home that used to be a brothel!

Now that is a great premise for a horror movie!

When I was 11 - 13, we lived across from an abandoned nursing home that was literally right on the Delaware River. Creeeepy, right? And of course, me and the other neighborhood kids would break in and play in there. We rode our bikes up and down the dark halls that were lit by dashes of sunlight peeking through broken windows. We would play hide and seek - and sometimes scare the seeker by all slipping out while they were counting, so we could hear them saying "Guys..guys..where are you??!" Inevitably, our fun was ruined by older kids coming and trashing it up with booze bottles and piss. It got too gross in there and we all were kinda scared we'd stumble into some angry runaway or something.

The best though, was that last summer I lived there (1988, I think), some kids had spray-painted pentagrams and shit all over the place , and the fucking police and FBI questioned a bunch of the people in the neighborhood. They were looking into 'satanic activity'. Ridiculous.

That was also the summer of the murder of a girl my age in that town, which led to us moving - which is a story for another time.
