What are your feelings on Marmite?

Contributor: cryinglightning86 cryinglightning86
I'm visiting the UK for the summer, and today I thought I'd try Marmite, which is something I've never really seen in American super markets. The smell was pungent to say the least, and I couldn't get used to the taste.

Well, as they say, you either love it or you hate it. I hated it. What do you think of it?

I don't think I have ever heard of it. What is it?

I'm American, through and through. I can't touch the stuff.

I know some Aussies who can't live without it, though. (Or is that Vegemite? I'm talking about the stuff that is left in the bottom of the huge container they make beer in.)

Just Googled it. Marmite and Vegemite are similar, but slightly different.

I don't care for MSG, nor glutamate rich foods, although this stuff seems to have a lot of vitamins in it. I was reading it was popular during food shortages after the wars and people grew up eating it in England.

Not really my thing, though.

Not something I'd ever try. Also, I know very little about it, but it sounds like it'd be pretty dangerous for someone who suffers from candidiasis? Also sounds like it could CAUSE candidiasis.

Former-Master loved it - he said Marmite on toast was his usual breakfast.

I've had Vegemite. Was not impressed ... I found it too salty. My Aussie friend said that it really is an acquired taste, and mothers in Oz start their kids on it early. We got a photograph of him holding the jar up and smiling, and my best friend's daughter is behind him and making a face at it.

I'm adventurous with food but Marmite is nasty.
