What do you do if the cashier at the grocery store rings you up incorrectly?

I was just at the grocery store and there was an error in how my order was rung up. It just got me to wondering how other people would react in the same situation. So, what do you do if the cashier at the grocery store rings you up incorrectly?

Say something to the cashier right away, regardless of the error.

Say something to the cashier right away, but only if they charge me too much.

Pay whatever I'm charged then go to see the store manager/service desk, regardless of the error.

Pay whatever I'm charged, then go on my merry way.

I like to contact the store via e-mail/their website after the fact.
I don't pay attention to what I'm being rung up enough to know if there's an error.

Llama's live off the land and don't need grocery stores!

Argh! I wish you could edit poll options after you post. I didn't mean to make "Llama's" possessive. Sorry, grammar folks!

I don't think I've ever paid attention to them making errors.

Having worked in a grocery store, I've seen it all - including those who believed the cashier was out to get them and made the price different on purpose to cheat them out of money. The one store I worked at took a whole 24 hours to shift products to their sale price in the POS system and you didn't know at what time which products would get to their sale price. (They've closed down since.)

I only really check it on clearance items. Sometimes the original barcode gets scanned instead of the clearance code.

I say something to the cashier in the moment (if I notice). If they can fix it, fine. If they can't, then I'll just go wherever I'm supposed to go so someone else can fix it.

I never even look at the register when I am being checked out.

Would definetely speak up and say something, no one wants to be overcharged for anything, things are expensive enough nowadays anyway so to be overcharged. That would definetely have to be corrected

I'm always watching the prices as items are being added. If I notice a mistake, I always say something.

There's one local grocery store that will have random, unadvertised sales but they're usually not in the system so I always make sure those ring up right. I rarely notice mistakes (or the cashier rarely makes them) but I do speak up when I see something.

I watch and I have been given back too much and I didn't realized it till I got home. I felt so bad that I called the store and explained what happened. I drove back to the store and spoke to the manager. He was so surprised by it that he was speechless.

I always look at the register screen and receipt. I have been ripped off too many times, by things ringing up wrong or by items ringing up multiple times when it shouldn't have been.

I answered "Pay whatever I'm charged then go to see the store manager/service desk, regardless of the error." I usually don't notice until their already ringing the next peron in line. That's another thing I dislike. The cashier is taking the next person's purchases to ring up while handing me my change and receipt. But that question should be posted on another forum.

I wouldn't hesitate to correct the error, even if I'm shy.

Since I have worked in all sorts of retail, I ALWAYS look at the register as things are being rang up especially items on sale. I say something to the cashier and if they get snotty or rude I simply tell them I will just deal with the manager once they are done ringing me out. I know one of local grocery stores if the items ring up wrong you get them for free. Wal*Mart in my area is famous for things not ringing up right or being placed in the wrong spot so you think it is one price but its really another when you get to the register.

As for the one who said they were given wrong change once, I tend to "offend" the cashier everywhere I go when I pay with cash as I always recount when they gave me. When I did retail I would count out loud what the customer gave me an gladly had them recount it.

Once this guy was basically in too much of a rush and I had already paid before I noticed that there was an error but..I think I would have owed 20 cents? My mom and I also double check our receipts just in case we get charged more/less. Usually if it's less the manager will just let it go. If it's more than I have been offered more of a product that I liked (say if I were charged more) or a refund.

I'll say something. Once I was with my mom at good ole wally world when the cashier rang her up for two of one item. I was watching so I told him very nicely about it and he snottily replied "Well, I'll have to get my manager over here. You still want to do it?" To which I replied, "Of course, you're cheating her out $12 here!" He was able to fix it without calling the manager. Funny how that turned around so quickly, right?

Seriously, some people just shouldn't be allowed to work in public! Ugh...

If I catch it before the payment, I'll usually say something. Afterwards, not my problem.
