What do you tell the people you live with?

Contributor: Emerlyn Emerlyn
If you have roommates, or still live with your parents, what do you tell them when you get a package from Eden (or any other sex toy site)? Do you tell them the truth? Or come up with some elaborate lie?

I try to arrange my packaging so that they arrive on days when I know I'll be the one to get it.

This week, however, that won't be possible. I just tell those that I live with that it's "stuff for the sugar gliders" (perk of having exotic pets; to get the right things for them, you sorta have to order online a lot).

My Mum knows I review sex toys, it's not a big secret. I just say "It's girl stuff." and she knows what I'm talking about and she lets it alone. It's a sex toy, It's not like I'm smuggling illegal drugs. I'm a grown woman that has sexual needs dammit.

I live with my children and my husband. When my kids receive the package, I say, "That for Mama's reviews. Please don't open it." My kids were raised to be respectful (and they also don't want to know a lot about our sex life, so they don't ask too many questions.)

If my husband gets the package, he hands it to me and raises his eyebrows and if they kids aren't around asks, "Dildos or sexy clothing?" (To him all sex toys are "dildos.") When I say, "Personal care items. This one is most likely some body wash." he looks dejected. Sometimes I like to mess with him and say, "Oh, this is a new cock ring." and I get a look of horror. (He has developed a definite fear of cock rings of late. Since the Pico Bong cock ring. Poor boy.)

I get all my packages. I don't have to come up with any story. My children aren't old enough to know anything. I will tell them that those boxes are mommies and please don't touch them, but I don't have to worry about it yet.

i just don't say anything. i tell them i'm getting a package and if i'm out working just to lay it on the bed. i think they are figureing out that something is going on.

dad keeps asking what are you boiling on the stove, and i tell him stay out of that pot. i'ts beans or something i throw off the top of my head. but yesterday he said, lori.. did you burn those beans we never got any. lol

i need to be more creative.

lol I don't bother lying. My mother, sister, partner (duh) and even the mailman know that I order and review sex toys.

I live with family, and they don't ask what's in the boxes much, anymore: they know I'm going to give them a look and say that it's private--even when it's sheets or towels or something innocuous. If I want them to know, I tell them what it is--otherwise it is my business.

I only have the kids to worry about, good thing they kind of know what the box is for (as in dads stuff). I do wonder what the post lady thinks though. lol

I send it to a friend's. Good excuse to get together but when the box is really large she wonders about me. lol

I tell my mum it's 'Review stuff.' She knows I review things, but she's never asked me what before.

The husband knows what is really inside, and since he's generally the one at home when it comes in he'll tell the in-laws (if they ask) that it's something I need related to my pregnancy.

I have no idea what we'll say after I pop!

My mother and I have a very open relationship. I open the box and show her what's in it.

Huh. Nobody has ever asked---either I have a naturally good built-in glare, or more likely it's just that everyone I've ever lived with knows what a great priority I place on privacy. I never ask them what they're getting delivered. If someone did, I'd be like Delicious Surprise---if I ordered a bottle of soap, I'd still just say "oh, a package." "Where'd you get it?" "The internet."

I get things shipped to an on-campus box and hide them in my purse to smuggle home. There've never been questions because they've never seen anything.

Usually I'm home before my dad and can bring the packages inside, but sometimes he'll will bring them in if he gets to the mail first. I don't mind this because he respects my privacy and doesn't ask about the contents. He probably assumes I'm just getting books, since I order from Barnes & Noble all the time.

I've thought about it, though, and if he did ever ask here is what I'd say: "I honestly don't mind telling you, but before I do I want you to consider how far you'd be comfortable going into my private life." I think that seems like a fair way to say it.

Very fair I'd say! Everyone in my family knows what I do and what is probably in the boxes...my girls are only curious is they know I have ordered some bath/body stuff. My oldest likes to look at the lingerie but the other stuff they are just, "Meh."
I had a chatty mail person (he was downright creepy and intrusive!) in Canada but I told him it was office supplies from the company I work for and he left me alone after that. I also called in to the post office and told them...they were very apologetic and I had another mail carrier after that. It's none of their business what I am buying online!
My regular delivery person here in the US says it keeps her job secure and she wonders if everything is ok when I DON'T get a package LOL!

I still live at home for the time being, hope to be out early next year. But I try to get my stuff before my mom gets up. She works nights so sleeps during the day. My grandma lives here but doesn't question it. I started putting my fiance's name on a lot of my orders so it comes to here in his name and I avoid suspicion altogether.
I shop on eBay and Etsy so before EF I got packages in the mail. But EF tends to come in the same size boxes so I told her I review stuff for a 'girly' site and in return I get a free product lol. I've showed her my lip balms and glosses, bath and body stuff and she bought it.
She did find a vibrator months ago that I forgot to hide and I wanted to die. I'd probably die if she found by bag that I pulled the zippers together and stuck a combo lock through so it can't be unzipped because I don't know what excuse I would have for locking up a large travel size make-up bag =/

I have to hide my trash too. I usually stash it under my desk and have my fiance take it home to throw in the dumpster. I break down the product boxes and stuff them in shopping bags and toss them in the trunk of my car or give them to him. I ditch them at the trashcans over at the college in the parking lot or drop them in a trashcan on my way inside a store lol! It's really pathetic.

I live with my husband and son. My husband knows all about Eden, so I don't need to say anything. My teenage son never cares what's inside the packages that's being delivered to our house, so I don't have to say anything to him neither.

My kids know that is one of mom's boxes and just put it on my bed unopened. Then I use the larger boxes to pack away outgrown clothing and donate to the Salvation Army.

My roommates never really questioned it before. I would be the one to start sayin "Woohoo! Another toy!" or something crazy like that. They'd laugh and have a joke or two. Im pretty open about what I do.

My boyfriend's mom and the mail man ask me occasionally. I tell them the truth! If they didn't want to know, they shouldn't have asked. The mail man gets a kick out of it and asked if I was a porn star or had any DVDs coming out soon.
