What is the biggest promotion you have ever gotten at work?

I just had the pleasure of promoting a young lady from the secretarial pool to a manager position. Her work had been amazing, organized and she kept putting original idea suggestions in that our company really did use. Finally our board (which I am on, as a partner) met and decided we needed to promote this lady. We were not sure where, until by chance, her latest suggestion came in concerning our marketing. Instead of paying the money we did for marketing, we could promote her and let her hire a few "young guns" in advertising to do our marketing and ads "in house". She was thrilled and we all think it is going to work out well for us and her alike. She is already bubbling over with great ideas about this project and the day is not even done!!!!

What is the biggest promotion you ever got???

I've never been promoted in a job because I've never had a job with promotion possibility. Oh, the woes of being a young person without a college degree!

Congrats on the excellent promotion choice! She sounds like she's going to be great.

I've never received one, really. I mean, I did go from being part time to full time, so... maybe that counts? But, nothing else.

I've never got a promotion or a raise.
At my last job, I worked my ass off for 40+ hours a week and I thought that I was doing really well, especially considering the shitty working conditions. Like, running a busy office alone for 8+ hours a week, coming in a 7:45 and getting a whole 20 min for lunch at 3:30.
But after about 6 months, I had an evaluation and was told that my performance was poor and that as a result my hours were going to be cut. I explained that things would run a lot more smoothly if I wasn't doing the work of at least 2 people, and was told that I simply needed to work harder.
Needless to say I quit on the spot :o).

The job I have now is amazing, I love my hours and my co-workers and I'm happy to go to work in the mornings. It just doesn't pay well, unfortunately.

From regular programmer to lead programmer was the only real promotion I've gotten. But the biggest raise (by percent) was 23%. The biggest raise (by actual dollar amount) was $15k/year increase. They were different raises.

25 cents - from prep cook to dishwasher - I still felt it was a demotion.

At this point, "unemployed" to "decent job I can live with" would be a promotion.
