When your favorite toy breaks...

Contributor: SMichelle SMichelle
First, a back story: my favorite vibrator is Uma by Je Joue. I've had Uma for less than a year, and tonight... Uma has died. I'm more upset than is probably reasonable, as Uma's not exactly a cheap vibrator. I set Uma up to charge. The lights flashed, and everything looked normal. Then... 5 minutes went by, and I heard a high pitch buzzing sound, and immediately unplugged her. I turned her on to test it out -- vibrations. Ah, but wait, then the vibrations quickly stopped. I waited a few hours, and then tried charging her again. Sadly, no flashing lights (to indicate charging) appeared. Uma, it seems, is toast.

So...

When your favorite toy dies, what do you do? Do you replace it with the same one? Do you try a new one?

I'm torn. I love Uma, but if she died in less than a year... I'm not sure I want to spend the money on another one just to have it die 8 months down the line.

Does it have any sort of warranty?

I'm not sure -- but, I don't have any of the original packaging, so I'm not sure I'd even be able to use the warranty if one did exist.

You may be able to contact the company, and if you can provide proof you purchased the product in the warranty period (if there is one), they may help fix or replace your toy.

Good luck!

I would see if you can find the receipt to it especially if you ordered it from Eden I always try to replace my favorite with an upgraded version but if there is no upgrade I try to get the same thing. So far I have always upgraded. I would maybe ask around or do a poll asking who has Uma an see how long they have had her and if they have experienced any problems. I would suggest contacting the company and seeing what they say. I did this with my Ohmibod and they didn't ask for proof of purchase so it is worth a shot. Mine was replaced without a problem. Let us know how it goes (:

My MiMi gets used constantly. I'd die without it. If it ever broke, I'd overnight a new one. lol

If I'd remembered to save the receipt (which, sadly, I often do not) and the toy had a warranty, I'd contact the company and ask for a replacement.

Otherwise, if it was truly my favorite or at least very "up there" in terms of how much I used/loved it, then I'd save up and get a new one. Or I'd ask around and see if there's one very similar to it that might last longer.

Well, I e-mailed the company using their website form, so we'll see what they say...

I know that I can get the receipt, as I did purchase it from Eden... the receipt is still showing up in my account dashboard. Maybe I'll have some luck getting Je Joue to either fix it or replace it... I'm doubtful, but time will tell.

No response from Je Joue, so I'm thinking that I'm probably out of luck. :-/

Bummer I would replace it but if it has still been under a year I would wait a few days then email the company back again. If I spend a good amount on a toy an it dies within the warrenty time I would make sure I was heard. Sorry to hear your favorite toy broke.

I would cry while in the fetal position. But seriously, I think I would give it another try and buy what you know you love.

Well, I'm going to try contacting Je Joue again, but honestly... if I don't hear back from them in a few weeks, I don't think I'll bother replacing Uma (or buying another Je Joue toys) -- simply because a lack of a reply would demonstrate extremely poor customer service.

That is crap most companies get back to you in 24-48hrs. I agree if they don't respond I am not sure I would order from their line again poor customer service is a turn off to me.

Right? It's been over 3 full business days now, and still no reply at all.

And still no response from Je Joue... For such an expensive toy company, I would expect a lot more -- but nothing.

Apparently my toy IS covered by a warranty from what I read on the website -- but the warranty is useless if I can't get the company to return a message.

If they have a number you can call, I would call it and see what they say. Lelo has horrible customer service too from my experience.

Just to update, I still have not received any response from Je Joue, and I am doubting that I will. I sent yet another e-mail, stating that it would be the last that I send, and that I am a bit appalled at their lack of customer service.

The website doesn't list any other way to contact them, so... well, I'm out of luck. At least I know what company not to buy from, I guess.
