Which historic culture do you find the most interesting?

The ancient Sumerians were always interesting to me. Seems like a horrible life, but fascinating.

I love learning about foreign places and cultures, but I find pre-colonial west African culture particularly fascinating. Most people don't know anything about African history prior to the slave trade--there's really a rich culture there. There were kingdoms and beautiful art and very interesting religion. My husband's tribe, Yoruba, was especially skilled at basket weaving. A lot of the foods we eat on a regular basis originally came from Africa. And let's not forget all of us can be traced back to Africa.
