I've actually never left my homestate of Florida, and that makes me feel terribly uncultured on top of being not well travelled. Minor poverty will do that to you, I guess.

I grew up pretty poor and I totally empathize. When you do get to travel, you'll probably appreciate it more, and get more out of it, than someone who takes it for granted.

There's a George Harrison Beatles' song lyric about it being possible to know everything you need to know without even leaving your house. I think it's based on a Hindu proverb. "The more one travels," the lyric goes, "the less one really knows". I don't know if that's true, but I do know a lot of people who've been everywhere and are a lot less "cultured" than you seem to be. And plenty of really cool people who've never been as far as a day's drive from their hometown.
