I feel the opposite. Love can remain, even if real, without cheating. Cheating, however, means he went to find something he didn't get here, and that I cannot will not "compete" with. Him falling in love I could understand. Cheating I could NOT forgive.

Physical cheating seems the lesser of two evils.

Experienced both, neither are easy to get over. It may be easy to say you can get over "just sex", but anybody truly in love isn't going to be tempted to either. When a partner cheats, or falls in love with someone else, something is wrong in the original relationship. At this point in my life, I would not forgive either choice, don't want to waste my time on people who lack a sense of commitment.

I'm a guy, and I know my SO feels identical about this.

Does it matter? Either way would likely mean the end of the relationship.

Geez, those are super awful options. I think they're equally bad, so yeah.

Exactly what I was going to say pretty much. I didn't vote either because it's just horrible. I just can't choose how I want to be hurt because both are equally horrid. None and personally it's not something I dwell on. Either option will put me in the position of absolutely leaving, although my partner wouldn't do that to me, but no way in hell I'd stick around for either kind of affair/betrayal.

I've framed the question a bit differently but:

I couldn't even answer this one, because I don't know! It's hard either way... I feel like there's a serious problem if my SO IS cheating on me either way and it could mean that their love for me is fading, so either way it could be pretty rough.

I heard about a study similar to this in my social psychology class in college and, from what I remember, men were more likely to be upset if their s/o cheated; women were more likely to prefer being cheated on that find out that their man was in love with someone else.

Honestly, I have to go against the "statistics" on this one. If he's in love with someone else, I would be able to understand that better than him just cheating on me.
